Is the scouting of other clubs more successful than ours. It’s a boring echo heard on here ‘we don’t have a scouting network’. We obviously are very close to every move Palace make but not other clubs. All the other clubs waste money on players equally.

If someone had the time they could come up with some percentage of how successful a club was with signings based on if they played first team games, then applied it to the transfer fee. I think we would actually be pretty high up as alot of our investment has not been wasted. Only Sørloth really has commanded a big fee and been a waste.

It’s seem it’s more a question of policy than scouting as our remit has been to go after experienced Premiership players, but the ‘we dont have a scouting network’ folk never acknowledge this and just keep repeating each other.

Fact is their income is very similar to Palace income other than being about £5m less due to smaller ground. A differential that can be made up by finishing 2 league places higher.
Their wage bill is getting higher quickly but is still less than ours. So overall the lower gate income they generate is more than made up by having wage bill around 10m to 15m less than ours. So they have more available to spend on transfers if you exclude money generated by selling players.
As a percentage of turnover their wages have gone from 52% to 76% (excludes last season). We were on 78% for each of the two seasons.

What we don't know is what the cost to our wage bill was in hiring and firing managers and their teams in those 2 seasons.

Or the saviour.

I'm not sure it has made too much difference as even a club like ourselves has thrown large wads of money at the Bentekes and Sakhos of this world. Small clubs like Bournemouth and Burnley have been able to compete and other than the odd cup victory the league title continues to be dominated by the big boys for as long as I can remember.

It hasn't taken the Premier League long to dump the wage cap and at least the Profitability and Sustainability rule stops clubs from running up big losses.

FFP is a good thing for football and was brought in to prevent clubs like ours racking up big debt, it simply needs to be enforced better to ensure clubs don't find loopholes.

Clubs outside the top 6 (used to be top 4 remember) are all finding ways of improving their lot, with bigger, better stadiums plus academies etc.

Does anyone else feel Wan Bissaka was sold because of a shortfall in Palace’s funding. I’m saying this because it seems quite obvious that Roy has not got the re-inforcements to the squad he was planning for - the non-replacement of Aaron and Michy Batshuayi are evidence to this.

I can’t really believe it was purely down to inflated prices, Dougie’s inability to identify and persue his targets or even Parish’s uncomprising stance on what we are prepared to pay - I think there’s a cash flow problem and may possibly be because of our potential take-over negotiations where perhaps a deal looked likely at the end of last season, but has hit a problem or even ended and thus we do not have the funding in place or sufficient to have got us through the summer with reduced revenue.

I think the Americans are refusing to give the club any more money.
The money that was put in last season, had to be repaid out of the AWB money.

I think AWB was sold for a few different reasons.

1. The player had his head turned and decided to leave.
2. United were offering money that's too good to turn down.
3. As an academy graduate, the transfer fee was pure profit.
4. As a right-back, it's less of a priority position.
5. We need the money - and most other clubs at our level are the same.

While not an entirely sensible approach either it’s clear we need them to sell up ASAP or we’re going to be left behind.

The Champions League is about to change in a way that will impact the Premier League's financial dominance.

Might be part of the American owner's rationale for selling up.

And I think the Americans have left it way too late to sell - anyone who does even minimal amounts of due diligence will know this is a possibility. (mind you it is prospective football club owners we are talking about - so who knows)

Doubtful as the ground was sold in 2005.

According to reports the club tried to buy it back in 2011 when the Russian Maxim Demim became co-owner.

The reality is most clubs can't go through a season without selling at least a couple of players. Other than the sale of Steve Mandanda in July 2017 when we made c£2m profit there has been zilch. You can't really count undisclosed fees for players like Jonny Williams and Kaikai as these would have been minimal.
