It quotes a few Sinn Fein members.

This was interesting too

"Sinn Fein voted no to all previous EU / EEC referendums. Gerry Adams and a raft of others have said the EU institutions have a democratic deficit."

Not a big fan of the EU it would seem.
They have always been eurosceptic. They used to be europhobes.

Don't forget their aim - they want a united ireland. There is little or no practical need for a united ireland while both the uk and ireland are in the eu - hence eurosceptism.

Now we are leaving though the leading voices of sinn fein clearly realise they are moving further from a united ireland, not closer. Hence the threats of violence.

The positions of the DUP and Sinn Fein are convoluted and confused. No shit. They are fanatics both with alleged terrorist links and political goals they want realised at any cost.

This is their actual position

"On 23rd June 2016 the people of the North voted to remain in the EU. They did so because it is in their best interests politically and economically. Brexit poses a huge threat to the future of the people of Ireland in terms of a land border on the island, the north being forced out of the single market, barriers to trade, potential devastation of agriculture, not to mention the implications for the peace process and the Good Friday Agreement.

Sinn Féin has argued that the only credible approach is for the north to be designated special status within the EU and for the whole island of Ireland to remain within the EU together. There is widespread support for such a position and it can be delivered in the Brexit negotiations. The EU has shown itself to be flexible in dealing with different forms of integration and different forms of relationships for member states and non-member states.

We have also argued that the European Union needs to change. Sinn Féin wants a social Europe, which promotes peace, demilitarisation, economic and social justice, international solidarity and greater democratic accountability."

They want to be in the EU but they want the EU to change. They also have a cunning plan: to move NI further away from the UK. Similar to the DUP cunning plan to move NI further from Ireland. *

*Their cunning plans are not very cunning

Biggin, you do know that some of the quotes provided by Slugger O'Toole (who I am a fan of) are from Cathal McCall's book: Identity in Northern Ireland? I know this because I've read his book; in about 2000 when it was published.

Sinn Fein have previous for moving the goalposts - as does every political party there has ever been I suspect.

Ireland now having to spend a load of money on no deal planning, and working out what legislation they'll need

The EU standing by to help them deal with the damage it'll cause. Vital in these times of strife to have others who can help you weather the storm.

Give them an independence vote , ( Scotland included ) both will end in a leave vote IMO . Both can be in the EU and enjoy the tremendous benefits of not being part of the UK .

If you're talking about NI leaving the UK, maybe.

Ireland leaving the EU, you're just making yourself look stupid.
