When religion puts definition on the unknown, rules on life, sanctions on transgression, demeanition on outsiders and puts men in charge of such a power framework, I tend to have a problem or two with it.

It is good to think of these two facets as separate even as the latter trades heavily on the former, regularly (but not always) besmirching its good name
Basically as soon as Religion starts to outlaw science, you are in trouble.

That's not entirely what I meant, because that would contradict the statement I was making, its more how in the UK politics, has become like 'Religion' in the US, a tribalized division, based not on understanding of the subject and the seeking of truth, but of enforcing a sense of self on the world. We've gone from being people who argued about left wing, liberalism, conservatism to people who shout fascist at one another; similar to how fundamentalism in the US has come to approach science.

The reasonable man, can have both religion and science, because they understand both. It when we only choose to have one truth, that we inevitably end up in a situation of hate.
