Itís a reasoned reply that you have a closed mind on.
Let's take one specific example. Spend on children and young people's services has fallen by 29% since 2010/11. As a result of the cuts to early intervention services, spend on late intervention services (child protection and children in care) has risen by 12% in the same period. Spend on early intervention services have been cut by half.

Are you really arguing that none of that has an impact?

So to blame austerity (otherwise know as living within your means) is an easy and simple cop-out. Off course there is a BBS mob who would blame austerity on Palace loosing at Watford yesterday if the could, but scratch away the veneer and those of us old enough recall the alarming rise in knife crime in Croydon even under Blair.

So called austerity is a blunt tool of an ideological argument.
That's not really what Austerity was though, because in order to achieve the said goal, government systematically cut public spending on public services which includes social services and social service programs - along with local council funding.

The consequence of cutting social programs and services is that the function that those services deliver is no longer provided or reliable. So when you cut initiatives around keeping kids, say out of gangs or running youth clubs, you end up without services working against the appeal of gangs and lots of kids with nothing to do, or anywhere to go.

The problem with Austerity, is that it was the illusion of austerity, in fact the reality was that rather than raise taxation to pay for services that tackled problems, we cut the services that dealt with such problems (including the police and prison services) and consequently those problems went unchecked - and the only real outcome of those problems was that they grew.

Of course if you live in the nicer areas of the country, this isn't a big problem - because their is sufficient private and personal funding / options to compensate.
