Clive Allen did okay. You could say that vicmo did too.

We sold him for 2.5m early in the 91/92 season. If I recall correctly Shearer's move from Southampton to Blackburn the following summer set a new British record at 3.5m and everyone at the time said it was a crazy sum of money. So within the context of prices at the time, Wright's move was definitely a big money one.

For any other 28 year old footballer it wouldn't have been a bad sum but not for him.

Clyne moving eventually to Liverpool and England callups was downhill.

I am interested to see how we fall on our own sword this year:

Pulis being a ****
Allardyce leaving, replaced by de Boer
Holmesdale Fanatics causing an issue

More like two, that one year where he got lots of minutes in the Europa league win, and the title winning season under Conte. Feel like his careers been wasted potential outside of that. All those underwhelming loan spells.

Apparently Conte wants him at Inter Milan though, which I’d accept if I were him. Conte’s system turns him from a mediocre winger into a brilliant wing back.

Yes he is, right now. As you say, wasted potential.

As I started the thread a few years ago I'm glad some others don't forget those who have treated Palace badly. I'm sorry that we have occasion to feel 'serves you right" about certain individuals.

However some posters have veered away from the original purpose of my thread.

Some players/managers have not left Palace under a cloud or have not done the dirty on us. For example, Moses, Wright and Sansom should not be seen in the same light as Miller and Coleman in particular. Actually we have been generally blessed with players not letting us down in the same way as some managers.

Dowie, Venables and Pulis were the stand out bad apples and each have paid a price.

Warnock and Freedman were like prodigal sons. Both returned repentant and to some extent have been forgiven.

It's interesting to read that a number of players who have joined Palace and some who are still here say that Palace is a good Club to be at and the team spirit is excellent.

Long may that continue.

I felt Nigel Martyn was maybe too loyal. He was simply a brick wall. Maybe slightly susceptible to attackers chipping him. What a super keeper whom I saw regularly play for Bristol Rovers. I wonder if he would have played more for England had he moved from Palace sooner. I missed the Jacko era but Nige and Jules are by a long chalk my fave Palace keepers since I became a ‘glory hunting’ Palace fan in 1976. It’s been in the words of Vinnie Jones .... ‘emotional!’
