Good point. I was gonna suggest the out of work Allegri, but he’s lost two champions league finals.

Yeah - at Blades. That's how Jagielka ended up in goal for them.

I might be in the minority but I feel with the business we're doing this window Roy is going to silence a lot of critics this season. He's shown when he has the quality at his disposal he can play an expansive and attacking style whilst showing the tactical flexibility to alter it to being pragmatic (perhaps a bit too much) at times as well.

The 442 system which he appears to be reverting back to from the 2017/18 season was one of the best styles of Football I've ever seen at Palace. I think by him going back to that system is declaring he has the confidence in the recruitment to be able to bring success with that.

The window isn't completed yet but it seems as though we're not finished in the market just yet. Combine one or two more quality first team ready players signing (Benrahma + Brewster?) with the return of Ferguson, Tomkins, Sakho, Cahill, PVA and a fully fit Jairo, Eze and Michy we'll have some squad next season. And I fail to see how on experience Roy wouldn't get the best out of it.

You may be right but in my view whatever players are available we will get the same old stuff.

I do hope not but that's the way he plays.

Jagielka was really good in goal though. I'm not even taking the piss in saying he probably wasn't far behind Hennessey.

I get the feeling that these days, Mutch is probably the size of a small bungalow. So whilst he is not particularly likely to be very mobile, he will at least block a large portion of the goal out.

Agree with every word of that.

Roy might not deliver the swashbuckling total football some of our fans seem to fantasise about, but he'll get results and steer the ship through an extremely challenging period.

In our better periods over the last few years, with the right mix of players, Roy's delivered some of the best football I've ever seen from Palace. Hoping he can do it again this season.

I could never get into those games since Champ Manager III I think it was. Just had the right balance between complexity and speed somehow. Not interested in adjusting which side a player 'dresses' or their hairstyle for weeks. Just the impression I have got and so have bought a few but never used them long enough to finish half as season even.

To clarify what sort of same old stuff.

The same old stuff we played when we had players like Yohan RLC

Or when we didn't have them and had a big injury crisis.

Or the style when we beat Southampton in our first game with 13 players unavailable

What same old stuff will he play as he plays several different formations from one up top, 433, 442...

each game he's managed has clearly been indentical

Perhaps we can persuade him to play the hoof ball of the Coppell era?

There seem to be a lot of new supporters who probably were not following Palace when Roy had Cabaye and RLC and played Wilf and Andros up front. It was some of the best football the club played in the PL. Of course RLC and Cabaye left and were replaced with two defensive players.

Never mind the Premier League...it was some of the best football I’ve seen us play in 40 years.

I see the media are trying to stoke up words Roy said on Greenwood’s indiscretion.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Just listening to Talksport and Alan Brazil and especially Trevor Sinclair were saying Roy was out of order for talking about another club’s player like that. Roy was totally justified to say what he said, especially in the position of ex England manager, which I guess is why he was asked about it in the first place. Can’t stand the way Man U players are defended in the media when they clearly do something seriously wrong. It’s been going on for years.

Nothing to see there. Roy has clearly said it exactly as it is. I'm sure no-one disagrees, including greenwood.

He hasnt called for him to be dropped, banned, shamed. He's said he has to take responsibility for it as a member of the England squad. And he does

Try telling the pair of numpties Brazil and Sinclair that. Brazil has just said, ‘it will be great to see Greenwood smash in a hat trick tomorrow against Palace - Alright Roy how’s that?!’

I must admit I've never really listened to talk sport. From peoples comments it sounds a bit like the radio equivalent of the sun newspaper. I fear a large number read/listen to it and that becomes their opinion. I guess a lot like social media "experts"

They really are just plonkers. I thought Roy handled yet another annoying question very well. The questions are always phrased to generate the copy for a story they have likely already written. If he had leaned the other way with his answer they would be whining that he had endorsed life threatening behaviour etc etc. Roy has a nasty PR habit of answering the questions he is asked. That means he will never be as sexy as Mourinho’s first stint here where he generated copy without questions but you will get a considered answer if appropriate. I think it was OK and his answer was a good one. Professional and expecting responsibility and accountability to be owned by players - spot on.

Oh it’s total nonsense but it’s actually ok nonsense. A light hearted distraction to have on in the background sometimes, and they do have the odd decent guest and discuss half interesting football topics on occasion.
