It is pretty clear that Roy separates his first team squad in the days leading up to the match and trains them specifically on the up-coming match tactics. It was this training (or lack thereof) to which I was referencing. I think Sakho was probably a mid-week pull out as it seems that he is fit to train but is reticent to play due to his calf (or so Roy has said).

Jach was involved with the U23's where I suspect he is doing most of his training. The debate about whether he'd be better than Delaney as 7th choice cover etc is of course a valid one, but there are several reasons why Roy might not want to use him just yet.

And HRP, , Did you watch his interview with Grierson? Bloody fluent in the Queen's he was.

I'd also point out that hodgson has had both the new boys playing in the reserves getting used to how we want to play and in rakips case having a mini preseason.
You’re talking like we had a couple of weeks to pull of these deals? We has since end of August to get plans in place. Most competent teams would have a plan A, B & C for each area needing addressing - so if a club does tell you to f*ck off, you have a fallback option. Of course, we didn’t do that & Just assumed clubs would buckle at the last minute & accept our average offer. From what I’ve heard about Guaita, our approach is actually quite arrogant. If clubs were coming & offering half of a 1/4 of the value for Wilf & expecting us to accept, people would be up in arms about it. Getafe & Lille has every right to hold out for the values they want - if we deemed that too much, we should’ve had fallback options like I said. Which would’ve meant we had a bit of squad depth now.

24 year old Polish international isn't ready to play first team football is quite frankly a joke. This weekend was the perfect opportunity for him to be on the bench, as was Rakip. Roy has no problems throwing in an untested 20 year old at right back, so this is all very very strange. i'm not saying the 1-0 outcome wouldn't have been the same, but cannot for the life of me see how he isn't a better choice on the bench than a guy that should have retired at the very least a year ago. very very odd. Sums up this season

On the face of it you are right, but clearly there is a reason. I trust Roy enough to make a good call in that scenario.

Not even on the bench when we have four CBs out injured. It's the only explanation unless he's crippled as well.

Oh come on, this season is bleeding ludicrous. We are allowed to have some negative emotion about that. The injuries along with the signing of players our manager doesn’t want to play...

Look Jach is a Palace signing. What is clear is he has yet to learn how to get injured. There is no way he is going to get picked if he insists of being fit all of the time.

Sorloth has clearly learnt how to get injured very quickly but as the second striker behind Benteke is under strict instruction not to get injured until Benteke gets injured first. But I expect he will be being injured a matter of days or even hours after Benteke next goes down. I guess it helps Sorloth being able to have one-on-one time with Wickham whereas Jach has been training with the under 23s and probably hasn't had the chance to join the lads in the treatment rooms.

It seems pretty obvious to me, I don't know what the conspiracy theory posts are all about.

I think some people are being a touch unrealistic...

The guy played two friendlies for Poland just before he signed for us. The first as part of a pretty strong team, the second as part of what was very clearly a second string.

Not long before that, he established himself in a midtable Ekstraklasa side for the first time.

I'm pleased he's here, but anybody looking for conspiracies why this 'Polish international' (as we keep hearing) hasn't waltzed into a Premier League team should probably be looking at the simple facts a little closer.

Roy is too cautious, he’s not perfect. Always thought he’d try and keep his Centre of defence strong but Jach should have been on the bench for Delaney

What utter cobblers that one might think let alone post on here that he would be training with the under 23s when we only have 12 first team squad available.

Each and every session would have 18-24 players involved.

So if Jach is actually not good enough why did we get him?

I too believe Roy is the best judge of which players are good enough to play

Stupid somewhat rhetorical question I know bearing in mind our recent transfer activity.

At least Sørloth has promise

When Erdal and Jach arrived Roy made a point of saying that these were players for the future and we shouldn't expect to see them playing anytime soon. So I don't think it's any surprise. The surprise is that we have lost so many CBs to injury since the window that it's being questioned. Bearing in mind that transfers rarely happen over a few days and have typically taken place over a far longer period.

I think the current injuries to CBs all occurred since 31 Dec. Weird really.
