I think the current injuries to CBs all occurred since 31 Dec. Weird really.
Which is strange considering we have Rakip on loan, if he doesn't play it will be hard to justify signing him for £10m.

Why bring Erdal and not play him, if he's not ready why, lets wait until the end of the season and let him go back.
Why bring in Jach and not play him, if he's not good enough why buy him.
We are not a top 6 team who buys a player and leaves them on the bench for a year or so,
we needed players who were ready to help us out.
Either the scouting team and manager don't talk, agree, or they are both planning for relegation.

Roy himself said we needed a good few in the window and we basically got one guy good enough to play. What was the point in bringing this guy in if he couldn’t even occupy a birth on the bench Sunday.

And the guy good enough to play isn’t an upgrade on the strikers we had when we got promoted. Just saying..

Whichever way some may try to dress it up, the simple fact is it was a very disappointing window but through no fault of Roy. However, when you consider our immediate needs were for players that could have stepped in at our hour of need and NOT for the future, when our fate could already be sealed due to poor management judgement decisions.
In the case of Rakip, where is the sense in bringing in a loan player who allegdly is not ready to step up but will then be sent to his new parent club in 3 months before he has even made any impact at Palace, lets not forget there is only Nine games left when our fate will have been decided, making the signing rather senseless.
As for Jach, surely after having had nearly a month to settle in also not forgetting he IS a Polish International, so surely would have been ideal to have been brought on for the last few minutes when Tomkins was injured would have told us a lot of his character and ability to cope under pressure, surely he would have been a better option to the now spent Delaney.
Lets just hope it all works out well come May, as surely Roy Hodgson deserves a bit of luck after the minor miracle he has achieved to date in still keeping us in with a chance of staying up.

LJ. I'd go with that. An utterly bizarre window even by our incompetent standards.

Yes. Not sure if that changes anything though. I took Roy to mean he is a good prospect for the future not now. If he was anything more we would have seen him by now.

I agree but the rumour was that we had the option to buy. If true we would know by the eof the season.

I think part of the point that suits-you is trying to make, is that, at 24yo, Jach has already had a good part of his future....

So he's good enough for Poland but he's not as good as Delaney.

So that possibly means another U-23 player would get in ahead of him if we had more injuries ?

Why is he not a bench option when are options so short ?

Maybe so. But is Palace's future that Roy was referencing 24 p/25 is probably when most CBs start to break through anyway so I don't think he is too old is he? The question will be how good is he. Coaches will have some idea by now but still early days

The answer has to be a combo of readiness and ability. I am not trying to defend anything, just trying to articulate why it shouldn't be a total surprise (i.e. Roy's comments) that he hasn't stepped up yet. I think Roy and Ray both value experience for obvious reasons. Ironic really when we concede that type of goal but hey.

I don't think this will help any one much and likely make it worse but one of the things I have heard SP and previous Managers say is that they need enough players of sufficient quality for training to be competitive enough. So the squad is there to provide cover but also has a key role even when they aren't playing on a Saturday.

Yep, that's the Poland ranked 7th in the world and one of the top seeds and the World Cup.

England are ranked 16th.

To me it seems as though they were signed by the scouts, not Roy. Meant for the next manager as maybe Roy is here just for this season

I've got no problem with him being signed primarily for next season. The thing that baffles me is why we spent seemingly scarce resources on two players in Jach and Rakip (loan fee and wages) who look unlikely to play. Why not put that money towards the extra £4m that was needed to get a decent keeper - i.e. Guetta. Nothing about our January business makes sense.

Seems pretty clear to me Roy's 'ones for the future' comment was a polite way of saying he didn't think they would be of use in the first team and we needed to buy other players that would.
