I just don't buy the club vs Roy signings thing personally.

I don't think it will be any different to before and it's just 'fan thinking' driven by how they want to see it.

Chairman sets budgets and expectation/goals. Manager identifies weaknesses and types of players needed and sets out formation etc for season and later revisits that based on what he has when window closes. Then coaches to results. DOS scouts and seeks options for those positions and responsible for squad management over time. Manager agrees with those 2 will this or that player 'work' - tough decisions made with Chairman having final say. They all collectively validate/question the recommendations of the others. Each will have suggestions etc.

It's not Roy's player or the club's and the chairman's job is to keep them aligned, happy and focused.

Anyway, re the above, I wasn't suggesting that we would buy him because Roy says. It was more that the 3 would all rate him, maybe for slightly different but overlapping reasons, making him a good target.

If he did come that would leave him and Eze potentially in that RLC slot with Jeff a third option or competing further forward as has been obvious in friendlies and last night.

I don't seriously believe it but it is for some reason nagging at me this morning as fitting the known facts. I can't get past the worry of the injuries though but I am not the 'Doc'.

I imagine he has agreed with them all. I just mean that I imagine it is directed far more by the scouts/Dougie and then his opinion sought.

RLC was quality but struggled to overcome the injuries. Yes there were games he was anonymous but with him in the team our attacking play was on another level. Just seemed to get us higher up the pitch and he was good at taking the ball forward

Not for me. Has all the tools to be a top midfielder but by the age of 24 has done very little. Spent a year with us and you’d have thought after that he may have decided I want to be playing week in week out but decided to go back to Chelsea and take it easy. You have to question his mentality. You also have to question why despite his fantastic technique and athleticism he was so anonymous for us half the time he was here. Put that with his injury record and the financial package it would take to bring him in and I don’t really see much in it for us.

But I think that's how it's been in all 3 seasons - since we have had a DOS. There is no point in having a DOS if you don't operate that way and its been referenced several times across several interviews. TBH Roy hasn't the time to go and scout, negotiate. etc anyway. He will have oodles of contacts and will know certain players from experience and watching games but can't possibly do that as well. So may throw names into the hat but the DOS will evaluate and create the shortlists for agreement.

So I don't think it's a change for Roy etc.. People reference McCarthy as being Roy's choice but we were linked to him as far back as Pardew and pretty sure we had a deal done that broke down on the final evening due to Sissoko moving to Spurs instead of Everton. Wilf I think was destined for Spurs instead as part of that? Certainly the former but is right. He pre-dates Roy albeit a player he admires.

I can't imagine old school Managers like it but they are for the most part having to put up with it. The scouts etc. report elsewhere and via a DOS or DOF to the Chairmen/Chief Exec. managers have become more disposable than players sadly. Paid big bucks to carry the can for the rest I reckon.

He should have never left us.
If he had pushed for a move to us, got 3 Seasons of football under his belt, he’d prob have his choice of clubs. Instead he wanted the cash, took it and the noose that comes with being a chelsea loan player. Gallagher will have this problem in 3 years. For me he’s not worth the £25m Chelsea will want with his injuries. If we could get him for £12-15m and some form of sell on then maybe. He’s injured all the time which is the bigger worry.

Loftus-Cheek has rarely shown enough to justify the hype

As Gary Neville said on Monday Night Football, he's had more than enough chances to show what he can do but hasn't taken any of them, looks prepared to drift through games taking the easy option and never showing anything to justify his place in the team

Time he moved away from Chelsea and hopefully not back to us

His wages would be high and is susceptible to injuries. Think we can find better value.

He was poor/anonymous in a number of games for us. Had a good last few games but that was it. Didn't get the hype at the time, don't get it now. Couldn't believe he'd been called up to the England squad when on loan with us

He'll end up at Brighton.

Which will be a shame.

At 24 he surely has room to grow still as a player but he does need to add intensity to his game and do the hard yards.

Yep, that's probably true.

But there have been some signings that have apparently been asked for by Roy far more than others.

Have to disagree with this. In the early part of the season he was our only hope. I remember leaving Anfield convinced heíd be in the England squad for the World Cup. Outstanding at Man City too.
