Labour also took a battering but held on to the seat which is all that mattered. I think they'd have won by more if their candidate hadn't had the issue with Anti-Semitism.
I think a lot of people predicted quite a big win for the Brexit party,with Labour 2nd by a decent distance and the Tories struggling for anything.The bookies odds just before reflected this.The result was a bit of a surprise although with the amount of activists Labour have at the moment you would always expect them to perform slightly above expectation.

Labour won by a similar amount of votes against the Tories last time. After the Onasanya debacle I think they did pretty well to hold on
