No idea how anyone can reach that conclusion.

This is a genuine question, what is in it was genius? I may have missed something in the film.

The Bruce Lee bit was really poor in my opinion.

Another oscar winner that really didn't deserve even a nomination.. I quite enjoyed it, but massively overrated: The Shape of Water

I think it's a bit like some "classical" literature that I just cant deal with.

Or maybe I'm just not couth enough.
I think it's a very good film and I think some interesting technical and structural elements. But still I agree with you that it has been raised to a level I find hard to understand by critics.

But it has finally move down to number 2 in the annual sight and sound list of best films ever made after decades at number 1.

Replaced by Vertigo, which I agree is a masterpiece.

Yeah I wasn't a huge fan. But I don't think I have ever appreciated magical realism as much as some people do.

I think I should try Pan's labyrinth again at some point to see if I can 'get it'.

I liked both of those films. I like others of his too. I just think some of them, like the Dark Knight are overrated.

Bar the shock factor of the violence, what was amazing about it?

That isn't a rhetorical question. Genuinely interested to know.

I really like Tarantino, but OUTH was awful other than the sets and the very final scene. Even the dialogue was not up to his usual standards

The first one was absolutely ground-breaking. Possibly hard to realise that now with the kind of special effects we are all so used to
