We probably would make a profit on transfers, considering most of our players were bought when it was still two points for a win and Herbert Chapman’s Huddersfield were tearing up the League.

From what the club has implied, if any of the longer term targets is available they might move but they are not looking to bring in squad players. I suspect that means few to no players unless they are a youngster or can slot straight into the first 11, with few to none being most likely.

With Zaha, Eze, Townsend and Schlupp all capable players, our biggest problem this season has been dominating / retaining possession enough for them to get enough of the ball to do their stuff. We tend to attack less than teams we beat. That says a lot about how much better we could do if we had some real enforcers in the middle, who can tackle, retain the ball and at least get it to the creative players. AT has come back to form, Schlupp is fit again and Eze is taking some of the creative burden away, allowing Zaha to add his movement and 'X Factor' to our front line -bringing goals. The time now is to get our midfield up to the standard required. I was hoping we'd land Gueye more than almost anyone else in the summer and Gallagher would have been a great shout as someone who can distribute as well. Someone like them would be fantastic additions this January, if possible.

Assuming we aren't shifting Sakho, Dann or Cahill until the summer, we don't need to buy a CB now but I wouldn't mind us planning ahead for once with a January buy, especially if confident we can shift some of the aging CBs. Must keep Tomkins though.

I don't think we need another striker, provided we improve the midfield with someone able to retain the ball, advance it with a run and distribute it to Eze, Zaha, Schlupp or Townsend. Give those four enough of the ball and the attacking situation will be all right.
