He openly said himself he didn't have any other offer and once we made contact, he signed within a week. On a free there didn't seem any rush for his signature, why the need to rush through such a massive deal for us always struck me as odd. EDIT: He was eligible for a contract outside of Germany for 7 months before we made an offer, surely that as telling enough. Ozil is seemingly being offered a deal before he is actually available and he is on fortunes, is 32 and not played for a year!

It's not like we have the extra wingers to substitute any of them anyway.

Did not notice Townsend , Meyer or Clyne in training video . Sakho was not shown in competitive training and surprised no U23 players were there

You could shove Zaha in goal for 30 games and he wouldnt influence any. Stop spewing stats that dont come close to providing full context. Starts alone are nothing without knowing what he was asked to do, the role he was assigned vs what he is actually best at, how the rest of the team were playing, the level and form of the opposition, etc. You are not even trying to measure contribution in those games in any meaningful way.
Nothing wrong with just saying it didnt work out, best of luck. Not everyone who leaves the club needs to be shit.

He hasn't been given a chance though has he, propper starts regularly in his preferred position not the pissing wing where he isn't a winger

Other players playing in slightly differing roles than they are used to have made far more telling contributions than Meyer. AWB plays RB having been a winger, McArthur played wide right and left even though he is central, Riedewald was a CB that has played well for us at LB and CM, Kouyate is a CM playing well at CB, Wilf is a Winger playing well as a CF, Ayew is an AM played well as CF last season and Eze is an AM playing LM and influencing games. Players adapt and plenty of ours have made telling contributions in positions unfavourable to them so I don't think you can use that as an excuse at all. He played in the same teams as the rest of our squad that did perform better, he also played a few cup games against lower ranked teams than we played in the league and he never showed his qualities enough then, so I think many of the excuses you have used to defend him, actually paint a worse picture of him IMO. Though I do agree, just because he is leaving doesn't make him shit. He might well do well following us, but for the past 3 years to say he hasn't been good enough/done enough is perfectly fair.

Ignoring for a second the best position for a sec, whatever he is skill set, it should still be very evident wherever you play, even if he'd played left back, his passing or crossing or speed or strength or whatever skill set he has, would still be present. His weaknesses would of course be exposed, and as we saw, the majority of those are speed, strength, power, a lot of what is required among your football skills in the Premier League, and his were lacking, and that's regardless of where you play him. Ironically, perhaps in goal is where those weaknesses would show up the least.

Prediction: He goes back to Schalke this window as the prodigal son, their fans hate him until they win 3 in a row and he plays well. Schalke great escape is on! Then they lose the rest of their games and he does OK in Bundesliga 2. The end.

Can’t even get in the FA Cup squad. Surely he is off this window.

Maybe he has a move lined up then. He certainly has no future here. Such a shame as we were all so excited to get him.

I think I'll trust Roy's judgement on this.
