The fiancée of murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi has urged the Premier League to block the takeover of Newcastle United by Saudi Arabia.

Are these people any worse than other Middle Eastern owners and sponsors, or the Chelsea owners for that matter?

In a word, yes.

Isn’t it ridiculously cheap for the Saudis to suck that oil out of the ground compared to other places? Cheap prices would hurt them the least.

Yes the Oil situation is likely to only be temporary anyway until all the excess supply is wound down.

Also it could be a way of making Fracking in the US unprofitable and causing competition there to go bust.

Going to be interesting to see what the Premier League decide here on the takeover there seems a fair amount of opposition to it.

We know the Russians do that and I wouldn’t be surprised if other Middle Eastern states cracked down on opposition. However you asked Saudi was worse, and it is - given its second largest export.

Personally I believe it is quite hard for anyone uber rich from an uber authoritarian country to be clean and pure. For instance no Chinese person who is rich enough to buy a premier league football club made their money in China without being a party member or official, and is therefore complicit. More than half the TV monies that the Premier League generates come from abroad and China is by far and away the largest of these overseas deals.

So if you want to make a stand on the morality of money in football then you probably ought to stop following professional football, because dirty money is everywhere.

I’m not making any stand. Just wonder why it is being made here, all of a sudden.

Because someone was killed and chopped up into little pieces. And really it’s not even that (because that’s not unique) but mainly because it was done in a foreign country and to a journalist.

So gruesome political death, journalist, and overseas.

3 is the magic number here.

Anna Politkovskaya - journalist, vocal opponent to Putin, murdered in Russia. Only two out of three. No one cares.
Litvenenko - murdered in theuK, probably on the direct orders of Putin according to the inquest, was once an organ of the state himself so not a journalist, no one cares because only two out of three

Someone who has no interest in the club, has no idea how to run a football club and will leave soon as it goes sour.

No ta.

Who knows where the moral line is but it is definitely above amputating thieves and lashing rape victims. In answer to the original question.... if they bought Palace that would be it for me. No doubt about that.

Chopping up journalists on foreign soil doesn't help but we all know that football is morally corrupt at the very top.

What football does listen to however is money. So when beIN Sports complains about the takeover due to links with Saudis setting up a copycat tv station broadcasting pirate content of Premier League games in the region the authority's have to listen. This is part of the on going aggression between Qatar, owners of beIN Sports, & the Saudi's who view Qatar as a refuge for terrorists. Throw into the mix is the chairmen of beIN being charged with corruption in Switzerland in relation to FIFA and World Cup coverage.

Would be over for me as well. I barely go to Palace games these days due mainly to the silly money involved in the Premier League. This season I've been to a couple of games this season and was planning on going to a couple more before the close down.

Instead if have some spare time on a Saturday where I have been to local non league, Cambridge and Tonbridge games.

If the Premier League say not to this bid they will simultaneously upset:

1) Newcastle supporters aka the Geordie 'Wahhabi' Nation and their Jeddah the Hut look alike fans

2) Mike 'Spurs fan' Ashley

3) The murderous, terror exporting, women-oppressing scum that is the feudal Yemeni-bombing Saudi ruling family

The answer seem simple to me

No hypocrisy from the (vomit) Geordie Nation at all, then......"I mean, way aye man, we'll have the money, fancy players and the trophies like.....but we're going to wag our fingers really forcefully at them for the be-headings an' all...."

I thought we were all meant to have a soft spot for Newcastle because their fans are a great bunch of lads, a community club, all about the local area, they never get what they deserve etc.

That's going out the window quite quickly when you've got Geordies with Saudi flags in their bio, thinking that there's any comparison between Mike Ashley and the Saudi regime, and lashing out at journalists who are pointing out undeniable facts.

The self-pitying tone that has emanated from Newcastle for the last ten years was palatable as long as it was justified.

But their fans are in for a shock when neutrals start setting them up as part of the problem in football, rather than victims of the problems in football. That's the price you pay for jumping into bed with bad people.

Those fans risk chucking out a lot more than they realise, all for the opportunity to over-spend on over-priced and over-hyped players.

I really, really hope the project fails.

The Saudi money is going to go a lot further in the post Covid market. If sport can get back to some level of normality, they could buy some big players for knockdown prices.

Could there be a conflict of interest regarding the owner of Sheffield United being related to the proposed new owners of Newcastle ?
