But whatever happens, we won't be able to attract players of Wilf's standard so we will regress once he is sold. Our best hope of another player of his quality is an academy player. We could be waiting a while though, and Zaha will be the best Palace player I see in my lifetime.
Traore has end product now. He is a better crosser of the ball than Zaha and still only 24.

Wilf's pace seemed way down this year already. The explosiveness has gone.

The Covid19 virus will have had a massive effect on the finances of Every club and caution will be shown in the transfer window even clubs like Newcastle even if they get taken over, so i dont see any club willing to pay the figures we previously expected it will be much more around £45m, so it will be interesting to see what the club does if that is the case but crucially how WZ reacts if his move does not happen, as we dont want to see a repeat of his previous reactions.
Yes, it is preposterous reading gossip columns and old valuations being put on players.

Covid-19 will bring about a major revaluation of every player. I do not see anyone spending over £50m on anyone in the current environment.

Yeah, Traore has more goal contributions than Wilf this season, although he’s obviously playing in a better side. Sell Wilf and get two attackers/one attacker and one creator of that sort of level and we’d be perfectly fine, if not a better team for it. That’s obviously a fairly big if though, transfers aren’t guaranteed to work out.

The pressure on whoever replaces Wilf is going to be massive.

That’s why we’re better off spreading the cash.
Just better than Spurs did with the Bale money.
I honestly don’t think we’ll get game changing money for him after this season, plus the sell on clause. We’ll never get another Wilf so why try to replace him.

I agree about spreading it altogeth someone is still going to have to replace his gap in the squad. In that sense, if Dyche can bring in McNeil it could be a good double move for us. He is certainly capable even though a different type of player.

However, I have no idea the chances of that happening.

Wilf looked pretty happy in training at Beckenham today as did all of the returning players featured on the CPFC Official website.

Normally a source of great anxiety, Wilf's transfer saga is now one of the few constants in a transformed world. It's almost reassuring.

I was thinking the same.

He is going to have to do a lot of soul searching if or when they get this season completed.

I'm getting the jitters because I can't see a Babacar thread. Maybe the world is ending.

Either carrying a knock or possibly preserving risk of injury as don’t think he’s lost it just like that. He’s also trying ( with success imo) to adapt his game.

Who in reality did a good job and was a class player but we never really played to his strengths still ended up with goal ratio of around 1/3

I dont think it's going to be like that. He wants to play at the highest level he can reach. If a big team comes in with a valuation that Palace can accept and also pay his wages, that'll be it. He was clearly willing to move to Everton or Arsenal.

However they've failed to meet Palace's valuation and Parish has done a great job to keep things amicable with Wilf by paying him an extremely good wage. With covid-19 it's now even more difficult for others to pay his high price tag. If they do, then he'll go. We wont be able to even afford to buy a ready-made replacement as younger versions of him will already be out of our price range so we'll just have to hope for the best.

That was always going to be the case anyway. It's like losing a player like Ian Wright, you are lucky to get a player that good once every 20-30 years and when they go it's pointless thinking of getting a like for like replacement, you have to use the money wisely on the team rather than replacing the individual. At the moment we are considered to be nothing without Wilf, if you use the money for him well, you could end up with a better balance in the side, but of course, that is not an easy thing to do.

If the Newcastle takeover happens I can see them coming in for Wilf. They will want to make a statement and would probably offer us near to what we want. If Wilf goes there then it’s purely about the money.

Maybe if they were in the Championship.

If the take over goes through, they'll be fighting for a European spot from day 1.

Newcastle are 4 points behind Palace in the table and Wilf has his roots in South London and so why if he was for sale would he want to go there.

Some Newcastle fans are already saying that they don't want him as he is not good enough in their deluded eyes.
