Spot on.

And those saying that 10m up front was a good fee are looking silly with stupid amounts being bandied about yet again this summer. We had our pants pulled down. I don't begrudge Wilf his move. He's a Palace legend, and was always going to move on eventually. I begrudge the flippancy with which CPFC2010 shipped him out without putting up a fight. It was poor financial management, and will cost us Premiership survival and the 50m that comes with that. Fortunately this is a saga that may end rather swiftly, as those saying it was a good deal at the time (most of you) will look increasingly foolish as he goes on to become an England regular who inspires us to victory in Brazil 2014. Yes, he's that good. He's world class. Get used to it. Lastly, well done Wilf - keep proving the doubters wrong

What do you mean if? He is worth 40m already! If Fernandinho is worth 30m etc etc. The prices may be crazy, and you can say they are mad, but on current market values Wilf must be worth 40m. Wilf is right up there with the best in the world already. I firmly believe that.

Laughable. There's player power and then there's outright stupidity. Southampton got around 15m for Walcott and Oxlade in League One. Wilf is twice the player at least.

Have there been 40m bids put in?

Had we rejected Utd's offer ( and wilfs chance to set himself up for life ), would we have even been promoted given how unhappy he would have been?

We certainly couldn't have afforded that contract ( unless we risked going under again )

Saying that, i think he's going to be a star for Man utd and England. From the clips i've seen he already looks better being surrounded by quality players.

He played well below par after he was sold.
He only upped his game in the last few matches.
Him staying might have been better for his form. All just speculation.
The fact is he has gone and we have signed one youngster, a journeyman and a Spanish player with questionable form.
The season starts in two weeks.

Do you just say clueless moronic things to be controversial and seek attention?

No one here is doubting his ability, some just live in the real world. The fact you think he would maintain the same level of performance and commitment had we rejected man united is laughable. We maximised the opportunity that was presented us and worked it in our favour, if we rejected united in January my honest belief is that we wouldn't be sitting here now as fans of a premier league club.

I'm over The thought of Wilf playing for Man U..we've had six months now to get used to it. Wilf helped us get promotion and to see such a talent de elop at Selhurst is very satisfying...I will be just as satisfied seeing Wilf do well at Old Trafford which means more money for us and going onto play for England many times. Proud of him and the club for developing him!

If you look at the top transfers only 9 people have ever gone for more than 40M and they are all established players who had played at the top level for a while. A player is only worth what someone is willing to pay and a player fitting Zahas profile has never gone for anything close to that sort of cash.
I'm not saying he isn't amazing and going to go on and become worth that but at the time he wasn't worth that. So the only option is to hang on to him and turn down bids which when the offer represens such an amazing step up and we can't compete financially with the contract they offer would be a huge risk.

Did you just pluck 40 million out of thin air?

Fernandinho has played in the Champions League, as well as in the Brazil national side. Zaha has only played in the championship.

Everyone knows Zaha is quality and is very likely to play at the top level, but he's not worth anything like 40 million at the present. It's so obvious it's not even worth pointing out.

He had a lot more good games than he bad games, he was only 20 dealing with a lot of press speculation and upheaval, scored two goals in the play off semi and then got the assist to the winning goal to and us to the top flight.

What does 131 posts have to do with anything??

His value as a player is debatable but his value to us on the field is not.

When we have lost 8 games in a row and all the usual fools are calling for the managers head, it will be a good time to reflect on why money in the bank is never better than class on the pitch.

Assuming the class on the pitch was still motivated and committed to playing for us after we had denied him his dream move to one of the biggest clubs in the world? So naive.

You figure it out.

You are saying that he would not have played well if we had kept him.
I am sayng that that is pure speculation. He dipped in form after the sale and only recovered in the last few game in my opinion.
I predicted that if he would sold we would replace him with cheap alternatives.
Despite promotion, that is still what has happened.

Yes, naive to want my club to stay up this season.
Much better we sit on a pile of money while looking up at the other 19 clubs and then finding ourselves back in the Championship with our other decent players being sold because we can't say no to a big club.

I can't wait.

I have had a season ticket for 20 years so think I am entitled to an opinion. The fact I'm new to the bbs doesn't mean I'm new to palace..

Who should we have signed to replace zaha then in your opinion instead of the cheap alternatives you claim we have replaced him with?
