Life Insurance stuff

Boring thread title or what?

But when Luka goes up to lift the FA Cup in a few months I probably will be gone having had a cardiac during injury time and us hanging on a by a thread. Plus none of the males in the family extended and all have made it past 73. Glaswegian blood.

It's only fair that my two kids have a nice payout coming to them to give them a decent leg up.

Any advice much appreciated as don't have any LI at the moment but want to.

Don't forget your jeans and wisdom. Those are priceless.

And a diamond for a diamond. Not bad.

If you have an employer pension, check the T&Cs as you may well have some through that.

I'm a financial adviser. Cannot provide specific advice on a forum, but as a generic guide, I hope the following is of use: -

Costs of life assurance are predominately based on 1) how much cover you want 2) how long you require the cover for 3) what your health is like at the time of application.

If it is simply to provide for your partner and children whilst they are dependent, then you may want to have a simple level term policy, with a sum assured sufficient to what you think they need to give them that leg up, and a term to take you until such time as they are no longer financially dependent upon you.

This is the type of cover you see advertised on day time TV when they say that 100,000 of cover for a 25 year old man costs 12 per month or whatever.

It is effectively Pay As You Go, like house insurance or car insurance. You have cover for as long as the premiums are paid for until the end of the policy. There is no investment element and if you reach the end of the term without dying, there is no return of monies.

If you wanted something which is guaranteed to pay out, then Whole of Life insurance would be your option. There is no end date to the term and as long as you maintain the premiums, it will pay out whenever you die, whether it is a day after the policy starts or at the age of 103. The main drawback of this type of product is that the premiums are much more expensive, as it has a guaranteed pay-out.

In addition to life assurance, you may also want to look at critical illness cover for you and your family to pay out a lump sum if any of you were diagnosed from suffering a serious or critical illness. This type of insurance is typically taken out of the level term/Pay as you go basis and the longer the term, the more expensive it will be - basically, the older you get the more likely they are to pay out!

Hope this helps!
