No worries :-;

FWIW, I don’t have a problem with us being defensive, either under DF or now. Without proper investment, well-drilled, organised, defensively savvy teams are probably the best you can hope for, bar managerial genius. Pardew-like shenanigans are definitely not exciting!

So why do people question his loyalty I wonder.
Saved from assistant job? Parish came in for him and paid compensation. Like you though at the time I was annoyed when he left especially as we were 4th in the league but I remember hearing from someone towards the end of that season saying he left because of personal reasons. His wife’s mother was ill at the time and his family home was up north so when a club like Bolton came asking for him I think it was most likely a tough decision but a right decision for him. Also the irony of it all now is that at the time Bolton probably looked more financially secure with the parachute payments where as we were still in the beginnings of the consortium.

Dougie’s talked about leaving on a pod a couple of years ago. Said he knew within a day of being at Bolton he’d made the wrong decision. Bolton’s chairman, Garside, promised him things that weren’t exactly available, and the allure of a side who were an established Prem team just a year before, was too much to turn down for him.

Not sure about the sick mother in law - maybe that was a consideration.

Yep - if we had the cash and the quality then things might be different but to attempt to play that way without the right raw materials tends to be a big mistake. You might get away with it for a while but 'it gets you in the end'.

Our recruitment is shaping up to be phenomenal business in recent times. Ayew, McCarthy, Kouyate and Cahiil. Credit has to be given where it's due, he's looking to be doing a great job.

Proper Palace players, Benteke and Sakho signings never work for us and never will and I wish fans would stop wanting them.

Big test for Dougie will be in a year or two when we have to start signing some younger (and probably more obscure and risky) players, as Roy said we need to do in his Q&A recently. Only one so far has been Sorloth, and even he has been argued as Roy’s idea by some.

Felt it was a shrewd move by Parish as Dougie’s record getting decent players on the cheap when manager was pretty phenomenal in hindsight.

He brought in Delaney, Jedi, Bolasie, Murray and Ward for next to nothing - all players that more than held their own in the Premier League.

Billing £15m
Lerma £25m
Mepham £12m

In the period they were signed summer 2018 till present we have spent £10-12m. I believe Ayew was £2.5m, Kouyate £8-10m. Just shows Dougie and his recruitment team are doing a good job. Right players, right prices. Players that fit. People need to forget past incidents with Dougie and realise he has our club at heart and is looking to the long term future.

The main problem with those are they are injury prone or have had major injuries and we should have stayed well clear. even a cheap player who has that history or prone to injuries should be avoided.

I had a thought on Sorloth....

Imagine we are in January 2020 and had never bought him....I wonder how many on here would be salivating and demanding we buy him if a rumour surfaced we were in for him for around £8-10m?

23 year old Norwegian internaional striker...

14 in 25 in Denmark
5 in 22 in Belgium
9 in 20 in Turkey

28 in 67 games excluding his period with us...I think a lot on here would be demanding SP gets his chequebook out!
