The other issue with our strikers is the positions they take often aren't ideal for the rest to supply them (maybe because they've been starved for so long). Ayew sits deep, often because he's been helping the midfield, and Tekkers is regularly on the edge of the penalty area rather than heading to the 6 yard box.

That's how it seems to me anyway, it's like a vicious circle (visions of an angry Punch).

Hodgson was diplomatic in his post-match interview but those of us with experience of Hodgson interviews could sense I think that he was pissed off with the performance.

Fair enough. I bet the squad are pissed off with him for not getting some game time, too.

Pretty sure he was fuming after the first half. Face like thunder and he was chuntering away to Ray and cringing each time we just gave the ball away for no reason which was about 15 secs after we had got it back .

Look at his face as he says the words, "staring defeat in the face".

Far be it for me to question the tactical genius of the all powerful, all seeing Mr Hodgson. But can someone explain to me why it was necessary to keep THREE defensive midfielders on the pitch, when we were one down to a team like Burnley with roughly 30 minutes to go? Did we have to take Townsend ( a forward) off when we brought on Mad Max ? Could we not have thrown Pierrick on for the last ten minutes ? After all, as RH himself said we were "staring defeat in the face".

If you are including Macca in that then McArthur isn't a Defensive midfielder - he can play there but he is not limited to that position. Terribly old fashioned really, having a player that is capable of attacking and defending. We used to call them footballers in the olden days Will never catch on though.

Probably because we didn't have any strikers on the bench, Townsend was rubbish (and has been all season), and he obviously doesn't think Pierrick is good enough.

McNeil would because he Roy would put him on the right so he can cut in and retain Zaha, but of course then you lose Ayew. Don;t think Tarkowski is any better than Cahill. Woods would struggle as any striker does in our system.
I really don't know what game you watched, now.

Individual performances in one game aren't reasonable to judge players on, and. Pearly not what GG was talking about

I see. I was wondering what we would have seen on here if Sakho had performed like Cahill did on Monday, though. I felt he was the worst player on the pitch.

He really wouldn’t. How Jairo isn’t getting a look in in our boring midfield 3 I will never know
