The wide player issue is still an issue, but only for a little while. Bigger picture is it will be sorted once Eze and Olise are back. Pat is obviously happy with the full backs so will trust him on that one.

Agreed it's being greedy and we've had an amazing window/rebuild but a few days ago there was a lot of talk of 2-3 coming in. We have 1 excellent signing however and must be grateful for that but may still be a little short in some areas in terms of quality and quantity.

If the right deals, players or funds weren't there fair enough and with everyone fit we can give most teams a good game. Maybe January there is an opportunity if the need is there for a bit more investment but we are building an impressive squad of young talented players.

That was a great window. Real fear that with so many out of contract and leaving we would be really short of players, but the 7 brought in all look excellent on paper.

Need some of the experienced heads in the pitch to lead, but the bones are there for a very good squad for a good few years now.

I think there was a fair bit of addition by subtraction. Losing some of the big contract perennially injured is a plus by itself.

Yep, shedding the likes of Wickham, Sakho and Hennessey who cost a lot but contributed next to nothing in the last 2 or 3 seasons was a particular help.

That was about 200k we spent every week with virtually nothing in return.

Isn't that about 10m a year saved straight away?

How many over 21 players do we have? Looks less than 25 to me.

Very happy with the signings which represent a complete overhaul of the spine of the team. Interesting that we brought in no natural wide players. I can only assume that they were not a priority.

25 exactly - there are 4 outside the main squad, Dreher, Roles, Jach, Rich-Baghuelou.

It looks like it was a definite part of the rebuild plan. Work on the spine of the team this window as that would presumably make us tougher to beat, and allow the first step into a different style of football. Next season look at full backs and wingers (with Back up centre backs and midfielders).

Not so sure on “wingers”. Players like James for example are getting fewer in the top level. Most clubs now have players who are comfortable both wide and playing into the centre.

Wingers used to contribute nothing in the centre of the pitch, they just hung out on the touch line. Now we have a group of players who seem comfortable in the new style - Zaha, Ayew, Schlupp, Olise, Eze - and can play anywhere across the front line. With a couple of youngsters as cameo/back up in JRS and Banks. Ayew is OOC next summer so maybe that drive the interest on Boga, as we will be in theChampions League by then…..

Yeah, I didn't mean wingers in the traditional sense, just their position on the pitch/starting formation. I also think that is an area where we could do well in the foreign market, no idea why, just a hunch. Same for the fullbacks.

It would be foolish for any Palace fan to not have been impressed with this transfer window, and the Board deserve huge credit for recognising the need for the huge rebuilding task and then backing Patrick Vieira.
But we have made a big error in not adding and strengthening for me that last area of concern Left Back especially when it has been clear to see on the pitch so far, but also innot realising you cannot go into the next few months with only a player(Mitchell) struggling and finding it hard especially having Two new defenders alongside makes his task even more difficult.
Yes we spent more money than we could have imagined we would spend, so it could/should have been a Left Back brought in on loan initially, and yes there were players available to bring in but we chose not to, could that be the "weak" area not strengthened that proves costly? only time will tell. But no question I have been very pleased with what we achieved in this window, now its up to Vieira and his Coaches to get to work on the squad and develop a solid unit.

Anyone 'in the loop' (that's not the phrase, is it? Can't think of what I'm after. You get my drift though...) who could winkle out Roy's thoughts for an interview?

I think it would be fascinating to hear his views on our window.

Does he think we've done well? Would he have bought differently? How would he set up the team with the current squad and why? Would he now be more expansive? Does he feel he didn't have similar backing? Was he specifically tasked to do a job without such investment until such time as funds were available? Did this feel unfair? Is he at all resentful/envious? Does he feel under-appreciated for having to work with spending restrictions? Did his set-up contribute to the reluctance to spend? How much input does the manager have in recruitment? Etc.
