Clinton wasn't even in the "Bouncebackability" team. He signed the following season when the Dowie mask was starting to slip, and it was all turning to shite.

I quite like these dinners. Some of the ones at Selhurst feature guests completely unrelated to Palace, and are really quite good. Dowie and Clinton are of fairly low profile and would only really hold interest for Palace fans. Most Palace fans wouldn't piss on Dowie if he was on fire, and his face was melting back to normal. A very odd choice of guest. I'm guessing a cheaper option than the like of Merson who can have a room in hysterics when he gets going.

Did you also receive any literature regarding the CPFC golf day, where you can enter a team of 4, for as little as £2500 (plus VAT). Saw this pop up on the big screen on Sunday - ******* rip-off from the looks of it.

Iain Dowie? Is this some kind of sick joke? The same Iain Dowie who did the dirty on Palace by claiming to move north; and theoretically he did. In a north easterly direction to Clowntown.

Let bygones be bygones with Dowie. The season we got promoted was one of the best I can remember (the second half of it anyway). And he started Charlton's downfall.

Dowie must be utterly desperate for the appearance fee, complete tosser the way he left us and then was proved to be a liar in court.

They really aren't my thing, but I do wonder who chooses who to book?

That said I know someone who saw Paul Merson in the big marquee on the pitch many years ago (he was a guest of a company with the dosh to spend on this sort of thing) and apparently it was a really entertaining evening and the place was packed out. As mental as it sounds, if they did ever have Cantona down here (please god no for so many reasons) it would easily sell out to the local business community

I was reading the snippet on the Palace web site about the players revealing the secret to their success in the 03/04 season, and the players interviewed point to Iain Dowie and his training methods as the reason.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

I suspect that there was a good team in there before, but just needed to believe in themselves and get fitter. The fact that probably all teams now train to this level, and the fact that Dowie probably loses his new manager impact real quick, plus a lack of tactical nous contributes to the fact he has never really made it as a manager in the long term.

Right man at the right time comes to mind reading the article.

Interesting article. Despite all the crap With Dowie a couple of years later, the second half of that season 03-04 was one of the most enjoyable periods watching Palace for me.

That was my favourite season as well. That was run we went on was phenomenal. It was a decent side that was clearly underperforming but that group turned it around massively. Everything about Palace was that season - a roller coaster.

I haven't got the animosity towards him like I did with Bruce when he packed his trunk.
who'd have thought after that 5 nil thrashing at Wigan that we'd be in the prem a few months later.
The Charlton wanker.

Do people really still hate Dowie?

He was great for us, especially that charge to promotion, and his team had real character and hunger. OK the subsequent season in Div One was poor, and the manner he left was very shabby, but i think it's a bit miserable to hold on to any resentment to the bloke, all things considered.

That Charlton press conference was a moment of Jordan brilliance. Hope SJ attends the dinner. In truth it worked out quite well for us.

I dont recall anyone being unhappy when Dowie left, prior to the Charlton announcement. And even then, who was actually thinking 'oh no, they've turned us over here!". Seemed to me that it was a result to get rid of him, without having to pay up his contract. The hilarity of Charlton's subsequent implosion just added to it all.

Time isn't on his side

I enjoyed Dowie's tenure, though the season back down in the Championship was fairly awful. Really poor quality football from what was a very good squad, culminating in that horrendous defeat to Watford in the play-offs. The irony there is that Watford had found their very own Dowie in Aidy Boothroyd, who was found out in similar circumstances.

Lots of highlights to the Dowie period overall though - the incredible run we went on to get in the play-offs, Sunderland home and away, making West Ham look very silly in Cardiff, coming so close to staying up, beating Liverpool twice within the space of a few months, Jobi McAnuff down at the Withdeane

It was disappointing the way he left but on reflection I think he was just jumping before he was pushed. Jordan was a very difficult person to work for due to his egotistical personality and none of us really know what went on behind the scenes. AJ's injury had a big effect on that season as well and yet we still made the playoffs.

Main gripe with Dowie was his belief that Tom Soares was a great talent. I never saw anything in him at all.
