Maupay would’ve been a great signing for us!

Let's have a look at some clubs that are similar to us in size and time spent in the top flight recently:

Bournemouth = x4 fit strikers, including Wilson, King and Defoe (all capable options)

Burnley = x4 strikers (Wood has a small injury right now)

Brighton (only just promoted) = x5 fit striker, including Murray, Ulloa.

Watford = x4 fit strikers

So imagine going half a season watching your only fit striker (Benteke) get injured and then turn in a terrible first half of the campaign, low on confidence and way way out of form. Let's not forget that Campbell left in June and Wickham got injured over a year ago! So really this situation should have been dealt with six months ago.

Not a criticism of Sorloth, he may well come good, but how on earth have we not brought in at least one more striker with something to actually offer instead of Benteke?!? Just someone with experience and a certain style of play - no need to try and get someone to score 20+ goals, just someone, almost for the sake of having another option.

The same thing applies to our current situation with wingers. Sako was injured before the window closed and yet we rolled on with just Wilf and Townsend, and you know what happened next...

Staggering complacency or terrible management of FFP from the owners. I am very concerned by Steve Parish's approach to this all, which was unforgettably spelt out in his "maybe the sun won't com up" Twitter rant in autumn last year. Gambling on not getting injuries in a season when we've already had real injury problems is a ridiculous risk to take in the January window.

Jach and Rakip - wow. Two of the poorest signings we've ever made. Before you say "you've not even seen them play" - that is the whole point, THEY ARE NOT READY TO PLAY. The manager won't select them, so what's the point?!?! How complacent would you have to be to buy only the three players we bought. The poor manager was crying out for players. He explicitly said he need to bring in a goalkeeper and we messed it up, embarrassingly being exposed by another chairman for our clumsy, disrespectful last minute bid for their goalie. As for Rakip on a six month loan, what is that about?

Roy worked a miracle dragging us out of that mess from the start of the season.

After five years in the top flight and I still feel decisions are made on recruitment based on Steve Parish's hunches, which are no more intuitive than
yours or mine.

Strangely only Spurs are gambling as much as we are, with just Kane and Llorente.
2 years on.

We have two fight strikers. One of them has been sh*t for two years now, not your average level of sh*t, totally, undeniably and woefully sh*t.

We've got no cover at right back, 50m pocketed from a sale over half a year ago - yet we've done nothing.

This is what i wrote 2 YEARS AGO:

"Gambling on not getting injuries in a season when we've already had real injury problems is a ridiculous risk to take in the January window."

I make it one.

Benteke: injured
Tosun: injured
Wickham: on loan

Which leaves Ayew. Unless you reckon Wilf can play there I suppose.

Benteke's back now. Tosun should be back after 2 games. Then it'll be 3 strikers for 1 position.

Wickham probably wouldn't have made the bench most weeks. He desperately needs game time after so long out.

Tosun misses one game. It’s not a big deal.

oh man, have you not been paying attention for the last 3 years.

Benteke is useless, he may have legs and be able to wear the kit but he is awful - he does not contribute.

I'm talking about a long term, sustainable attacking resource of players for our team to strive under. Not just about enough to get by.

If a winger gets injured, Ayew gets pushed out to the wing - that leaves us with two strikers, both prone to injuries and one who is sh*t.

This isn't a position where you just get by, it's the position which scores goals, you know, the whole point of football.

It's ridiculous it's been neglected for so long at Palace. Signing another player on loan does not fix this mess.

We all feel that frustration Alan but somehow we seem to be able to get away with our shambolic transfer policy, but sooner or later our luck will runs out and the Board will then have a lot of questions to answer.

The club has finally lost the plot

Their lack of strategy and leadership around squad management is embarrassing

Totally pathetic

1 RB, 2 Wingers and 2 Strikers ( Minus Benteke as hes been MIA for 2 years now )

It's actually laughable that the ***** in charge think that's acceptable. We don't have a hint of a CM that can create any sort of chance
The shittest part of it all is that it's not going to change in the summer either because the board and the recruitment staff don't have the foggiest idea what they're ******* doing.

No Wilf and no Roy next year and were being run by a bunch of clowns who have yet to put together a balanced team with over a billion pounds of income in the last 7 years.

I've been paying attention. If you want a sustainable attacking resource in the long term, you should understand why sending Wickham on loan to get games under his belt makes sense.

We play but one striker in our system so Ayew is enough for now and Tosun/Benteke will soon compete with him. The real problem comes if our wide players suffer further injury and if we lose Ward at RB. Two or three defeats in a row now and we would have a very different view of safety.

Hoping we start planning now for summer transfers from the pool of global talent that's reliant on coin and Premier League status and not all this last-minute disappointment with reliance on other clubs' deals.

If we play Ayew we lose a vital part of the link up play, long ball that Ayew holds or and often actually wins. He can't do that and be a striker too.

I don't think there's much hope of that, either because we are in trouble financially or there is no joined-up thinking between Freedman and Hodgson as to what we want, and who is suitable.
