I think the bubble has burst for buying football clubs outside of the really big clubs. There have been so many examples of new owners coming in and losing a fortune. If you do buy a club you can spend fortunes and still get no success, it’s not like it was 15 to 20 years ago.

I can’t see anybody meeting a value of £200m+ for Crystal Palace with a decaying stadium and poor infrastructure (trading ground etc) by premier league standards. Newcastle have been up for sale at £300m for years but can’t get a serious offer. Southampton got bought with a value around £250m but they have a quality stadium and fantastic infrastructure with the most successful youth production over the last decade. I’m worried we are going to be stuck in a cycle of low investment while we wait for a buyer that won’t materialise. The squad desperately needs an injection of some quality, younger players. We won’t be able to survive on ageing players with short term deals over the longer term.

It makes sense get the balance sheet looking better with the club in a fairly stable position in the league. Time to Cash in the Chips while the going is good.

Maybe we will get someone like the Venkys coming in to take over?

Worrying times as probably not too many decent buyers out there.

The Eagles hope to increase revenue with a redevelopment of their Selhurst Park stadium and improvements to their successful academy.

The projects require a combined outlay of £140m but will increase income by £24m a year, according to the investor summary.

The document – issued by Zenith Global Capital Partners – says the club would be sold debt-free and has a projected valuation of £525m by year three and £700m by year five.
Dream on with the future valuation.

I guess in comparison to Newcastle or Southampton is the catchment area for Crystal Palace, being in London with tourism as well, is potentially far greater. The need to improve the clubs marketing and ticketing process however would need a serious revamp, never mind the stadium or academy.

The days of football ownership being a profit maker are really limited unless you can find a club that has declined but is relatively debt free that just needs a restart. These are few and far to come by.

That or find a club that has support of its council stadium wise and potential catchment area growth - Brentford and Luton spring too mind. Even then, it's probably a case of getting to prem and then selling. However, Premiership clubs do not change hands that often so the exit strategy for when owners would really see the rewards is limited.

Treat the story as garbage. The only other press to feature or pick up the article is the Brighton and Hove Independent. Says it all really.

Big catchment area but a lots of London clubs. Chelsea, Arsenal etc can easily attract support from South London youngsters. If you live in or around Newcastle then you support Newcastle. Itís easy for them to get 50,000 supporters every week.

Their last Prem home game, Newcastle got 43,316
Their previous one was 44,157

The bubble has burst, the fans put up with a net zero spend under Rafa, but are now deserting in their droves.

True but that is due to a protest against Ashley. Under a new ownership they would get 50,000. They averaged 52,000 last season.

Most football teams, and probably many professional sports clubs, make very little money. The 'investment' would probably not give a financial return but could have other benefits such as so called 'sports washing' (I don't want Palace owned by a dodgy state), enhancing an individuals reputation and/or the ego of it, networking amongst other owners. It could be nice distraction for a bored billionaire.

I'm reminded of the owner of the Miami Dolphins. He bought the franchise for over $1 billion. His money is safe in a closed league but he has since 'invested' huge sums into facilities, stadium revamp, sports inititives and spending up to the cap. I doubt he's made much money at all, particularly relative to the initial investment. He's doing it for the fun of it.

The PL status, academy, first team, stadium and Palace for life charity are in my view great things to be part of, particularly if you have links to the area. All we need is a generous billionaire to think the same...

Sell AWB for £50m: TICK
Sell Zaha for £70m in summer 2020: TICK (deal is probably already done)

Major assets stripped. A few cheap replacements to appease the fans, as per the last few transfer windows. Mid table finish for 2019/20 season. Everyone happy.

Sell for £200m+ in the summer, once the Zaha transfer goes through. Americans make a big profit and Parish waters down his stake to release some of the wonga into his own back pocket too. Keeps a stake to show he is 100% Palace as well as a shrewd businessman. Everyone happy again. Can't wait.

A mid table finish sounds pretty good to me.

Personally I have no problem with palace being run to make a profit. Far better in the long run than being financially dependent on the whims of a billionaire.

You are as always wrong

It wonít make any difference to the sale, unless they have pulled that cash out as a divi.
If the club is sold itís always calculated cash free/debt free so whatever the swing (I.e. weíre sitting on cash from those sales) the price will change accordingly.

If they have stripped the cash out from the sale(s) of the player(s) (one which hasnít happened yet), they have to declare it and the buyer will know this in the DD.

The Wilf sale has been on the cards for years and everyone knows about it. The price is the price. What is important are the buyers, their plans and investment.
