A 90 second highlight video isn't much compared to years of being caught out of position, failing to track back, failing to commit to challenges...

half of the time he was blamed for goals he was the ONLY player to spot the threat! Not even his own man but he spotted the issue, used his pace and nearly got there.....

the BBS: PVA is closest its his fault

or.. PVA puts in a cross which is caught by the keeper who quickly punts it to their RM, they cross and goal.

the BBS: Came from our left which should be PVA despite being by the corner of the far end of the pitch a few seconds prior, its his fault!

He had his faults... silly passes on occasion was the most frustrating but the blame he got for shit not his fault outnumbered the ones that were actually his fault 5:1!!!

Far too many make their minds up and cant see beyond opinion set in stone.

But thats just it!! "OUT OF POSITION" is probably the most over used critism on the bbs. If he has run the length of the pitch at full tilt, like he did many times, every single game and been caught by a counter... yes he isnt in his position but that isnt out of position the criticism!!!!! Its just being exposed to the risk involved having full backs push! You dont want that you keep 4 at the back at all times. Only way to stop it.

Failing to track back was never true. I say 'was' because i honestly think his head went a couple of months ago, once he was leaving. But prior? No! Lots of people claimed that but they were the ones who refused to watch a replay after their claims were denied. What usually happened when the cyber experts blamed pva for not tracking back was the LM or CM dropped back because they were closer than PVA after his push forward... PVA then did exactly as they train to do and filled the vacant position of CM or LM. People see the replay and he is slowing to a trot in these areas and he is to blame. Because people dont understand what his is doing and cant be bothered to watch a replay when its pointed out.

Failing to commit challenges? do you even watch games? (last 2 months aside)

Our full backs have faced this shit in growing numbers since promotion. Same "out of position" shite. Its generally people that don't realise what they are doing but refuse to either listen or care when others explain why they are wrong.

PVA was not perfect but he was pretty good for us. I'd say you'll miss him when he's gone but actually i have high hopes for mitchell and you might get away with that. PVA should be remembered fondly because overall he was a great signing for us and his critism far more about social media momentum than what he did on the pitch

He gets in the Dutch national team, scored a number of good points winning goals for us and had the pace to get across and cover our slower older weaker centre backs. Basically people are right we have a new capable left back who is improving all the time but he is not yet as good as PVA going forward or covering the centre backs and anyway we need more than one. It will cost us to buy another, money that should be spent elsewhere.

Personally always think our full backs look exposed because they're sre to have a narrower starting position and PVA often wasn't helped by a lack of cover in front of him. Was never not happy when he started and to be honest if he makes the Dutch 1st team he can't be that bad.

He used to be able to get forward AND be available to defend subsequently

I had never seen a more confused performance at wingback as I did watching PVA in the Dutch game against Ukraine, the one he got yanked out of after 60 minutes. He was running up and back, never sure if he should stay where he was or make a run forward. Thankfully no one on the team passed to him, so that anxiety was easily dealt with. He didn't play the role of wing back as much as occupy the visual space of where one would be. That way when they would show a replay, he would be approximately where a WB is kinda expected to be if you were taking a picture of a game.

Iím certain we offered PVA an extension but in much lower terms. Truth is he has gone from being a first team player to rotation and the new contract would reflect that. Iím certain the club were also aware that he might want to look elsewhere for a final payday, and who can blame him. Itís a calculated risk, but not worth paying over the going rate for him.

I hope we havent offered him a new contract. He has been a good player for us, but we need to freshen up the squad with new faces.

Fresh?

So youíve got a good car but itís better to buy a new expensive but worse car just because itís new to you? Great logic.

Surely we should looking at something cheap, better, and reliable? PVA has supposedly said he wants to move on, heís 31 in August, and is no longer first choice.

With your analogy in mind: he was a good car, but is now old, not as reliable, and doesnít always want to start. The club wants to let him go and replace it, but you think that translates to buying a crap car for a lot of money. Hmmm!

Just show a video of him waving Knockaert onto his stronger foot vs Brighton so that we lost at home to them.

Great going forward when allowed. Average defender.

Mitchell isn’t all that great either yet. He gets by because he’s an academy prospect and deservedly so. Has ability but he’s raw and makes more mistakes than we acknowledge.
