Eh ? Back at you. Why on earth would a keeper elect to punch away at a ball at his midrift ? His got a highly honed body (allegedly) and an expenisive pair of goalkeeping gloves and has the added benefit of being one of only two players on the whole pitch who is allowed to catch the ball.

Keepers these days seem to treat the ball as a hot potato...using their feet more than their hands in many cases.

The poster I replied to mentioned crosses, which normally arrive in the box way above midriff height and obviously the GK cant wait for it to drop

As regards balls coming towards GK at midriff height he will obviously catch it if no opponent is near, but the GK must get to it before any opponent, and, when space is tight, punching (arms extended) is often a better option as catching gives the opponent an extra split second to get a leg in first
