If we are to solve our goal scoring problems then much will depend on what the Board see as a sensible budget. I would say we need to wheel and deal and then add x into the kitty to give the manager(hopefully still Hodgson as now is not the time for change and probable turmoil) so a sensible budget to work with will be needed, the alternative in not doing so is if relegated the long term effect could/would be unthinkable to CPFC.
So who do we sell to raise funds? the obvious answer would be Benteke but accept we will need to take a hit on his fee but its the saving on his wages is key, and if it were possible to return Ayew as it clearly has not worked out and Roy probably realises that.
As CB's replacement i would bring in Welbeck who can lead the line or if need be play alongside Wickham as Twin strikers, maybe get on loan to see out the season and see if we stay up then buy, that lessons the risk if relegated into paying out hefty wages in the championship. And to replace Ayew i would buy Victor Moses to fulfill the wide role and play a Front Three of......Zaha..Welbeck..Moses giving us a better balanced forward line, also leaves a strong bench with Wickham, Townsend, McArthur, Ward and Dann.

Danny Welbeck on loan is about the best we can hope for IMO, although even that may be a pipe dream.

To be fair his club goalscoring record isn't that impressive, but he's spent the majority of his career coming off the bench at big clubs. He does have a 1 in 2.6 goal ratio for England however.

I think he'd suit our system well. Him and RLC would improve us hugely.

Welbeck would be great but I suspect others me be in front of us to sign him.

January is an awful time to be forced into buy a striker. The decent ones will not be sold unless we make a big offer or we go for cheaper/unproven option and we've done that plenty of times before.

I think that's why a loan is the best option in January. Bring in a player who's eager to play games and prove himself then focus on sourcing a permanent option for the summer. Like you say you end up paying a premium for bang average players in January. No offence Alexander.

Neal Maupay from Brentford. Not sure what fee would bring him to us but I'd expect we'd get change from 15m.

Unproven at this level but even proven at this level does not provide guarantees.

Just scored 5 goals in one match in the Germany. Can't have enough Luka's in your team.

Prior to that had never scored more than one goal in a Bundesliga game. Scored in the last 3 games and is certainly in form but does this a lot - scores for 3 or 4 games in a row, then nothing for 5 games, then 3 in 3 etc.. Sometimes doesn't even get in the 1st XI.

Mind you, that might be the level of striker we should aim for. Will need Eintracht to drop out of the Europa League first, mind you.

Would bite your ******* arm off for a striker that could do that!

Surely a knockdown fee given he is out of contract in the summer and will be on a free. Player might hold out for bigger wages in the summer but can''t see much advantage to Arsenal of loaning him out.

Nor have I.

The only problem is that Wickham is only just returning and might take a bit more time to get right back up to speed. There are 11 games till the window opens and realistically it would be a good result to have Wickham start in 4 or 5 of those.

Benteke might be out until the window so we may not have much of a chance to see if they can turn their fortunes around post injury before a decision has to be made.

I have also not given up hope on Sorloth but the guy needs to be tried, especially given the situation above.

He (Sorloth) needs to be tried and played to his strengths and keep his confidence up . That way we can then play him and Wickham up top together on the odd occassion, with the right service and tactics who would want to mark those two, fired up ? Then Ben will need to really work his arse off to get back in . Nice to hear a positive messages there regarding the target men, Roy needs to pump em up like you would expect from any decent man manager, then play a way to either their strengths or to the strengths of whoever it is he does decide to play .
