Our supposed interest in Moses indicates we'd prefer not to buy a specialist striker this window and bank on Benteke and Wickham. Moses could operate up front as a lone striker should B+W be unavailable or unfancied and Moses would also be a good back up for Wilf or Andros, who are sorely lacking quality cover. Moses could also be a great LB.

All in all, Moses is a wise buy. I'd prefer we go for an out-and-out striker right now, as well as Moses, but he would still be worth getting either way. It could be argued buying him alone would be enough to see us to the summer, especially as the division seems so weak at the bottom this season.

Putting all our eggs in one Moses shaped basket would be risky business.

The clubs towards the bottom of the table are weak, but most of them will do what we've done the last few seasons and invest heavily to get out of the mess they're in. It's worked for us so far and it will work for one or two of them.

It's imperative that we bring in a specialist striker to cover Wickham and Benteke. Wickham's injury history is against him, unfortunately, and Benteke isn't the same striker we paid all that cash for.

Roy's done well to push through to where we are this season, but we need a focal point to our attack and soon.

January is always a precarious market particularly for an essential position like a striker. We're likely to only get our pants pulled down.

Maupay I feel will cost in excess of £15M and could easily go down as another Scott Hogan. I'd rather we wait until the end of the season and hold out hope Fulham get relegated and we bring in Mitrovic who would be a great fit in this squad and admired by Hodgson

Ayew returns to Swansea though harsh on him as he’s not been played in his role once, but monkey on his back at palace now.

Sorloth out on loan

Solanke loan with fee agreed

Defoe loan

That would give us what we need for a strong end to the season.

We just don’t need Moses. Right side is fine ans he’s spent as an attacker.

Every squad has deadwood & the trick is to convince other clubs that our deadwood would be their treasure. So who is on the chopping block & who's deals are up in the summer as those players/agents will be looking to drum up employment.

Mutch. Clearly has no future here. Expensive contract (finally) runs out this summer & solid indications that a move to cardiff could happen in january.

Souare. Third choice left back. Expensive contract runs out in the summer. Club will be open to doing deals for PS.

Joniesta. Roy is the latest manager to not rate him. Contract runs out in the summer & this wouldn't be the first window he has been shipped out on loan.

Puncheon. Lost roy's trust as a starter in the league. Club were open to him leaving at the start of the season, contract ends in the summer & i think demand from championship will be there.

Ayew. Send him back to Swansea. Frees up a loan spot.

Jairo. I like jairo but roy/ray openly don't rate him. Club tried to sell him to Swansea in the summer but he refused to go. (If he hadn't, we would have Ayew full time & be stuck with him). He is one of the few players listed so far that could command a transfer fee. If the club get a bid anywhere near 4/5m mark, they will bite buying clubs arm off. Saving on his wage could help balance the books too.

Kelly. Speculation as to whether he has signed a new deal or not. I think roy likes him (gave him an england cap after all) & i think the player is settled but IF he is out of contract in the summer, he may look at options that guarentee him first team football. I think the modern day Dean Austin will stay.

Sørloth. I would sell him/loan him to the championship or back to scandanavia. If rumours are true club has enquired about Defoe/Solanke/Moses, any of those would push Sørloth further down the pecking order.

Wickham. Consistent speculation about championship clubs (pulis leading the way) would loan him. Club may be tempted to allow CW to go and get match sharpness. Unlikely to send him out before Benteke returns in my view.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see club try and get the likes of Woods & Kirby out on loan for league experience. Richard Shaw is a big advocate of acquiring league experience for youngsters.

All this comes on top of resisting unwelcome offers for treasures we don't want to let go of.

Sakho is now back in the french squad, could be interest there (as there were rumours at start of the season)

PVA has his admirers, as does AWB. Fanbase would be pretty disappointed to see either full back depart.

Townsend has been linked with a return to Newcastle every window since he arrived at CP, why should the next one be any different? Those goals vs Burnley & Man City have put an extra £5m on the price tag.

Same press circus will circulate around Wilf & possibly Benteke once he gets fit.

I'd be furious if we accepted any bids for Luka, especially in a january window.

Who you keep is sometimes more crucial than which new players you sign.

You raise some good and valid points, without doubt the team needs to strengthen in January with probably 2/3 players coming in. But as for outgoings in January it is a dangerous ploy to move on too many even the ones that dont appear to figure anylonger, should a sudden spate of injuries hit could prove fatal for the club so we may have to bite the bullet (wages) with some until the summer. But to balance the books send Ayew back if possible and loan out Sorloth to sharpen up his game as i feel he may still have a career with Palace when returning, but the summer will be vital in shifting on the "burdens" within the club but bring in well researched replacements so as to not have any passengers again.

Reassuring to see the annual Mario Balotelli rumour circulating online again, this morning. No sources, quotes or basis.

The player we should go all out for is Sebastien Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt offering Benteke in the deal.

Frankfurt couldnt afford Bentek’s wages. Not many clubs can afford £100k a week players.

Surely the thought of being Palace's main man up front with our solid defence, organised/funtional midfield and attacking flair of Wilf and Andros would jump at the chance of leading our line rather than being no. 3/4/5 striking option in their current premiership team (or 1st choice in division below).

Whether that be Calvert-Lewin, Lookman, Solanke, Origi, Arsenal prospect or other is where Dougie earns his corn, but I would really like us to get this type of player to propel us long-term.
That's not a player you buy in January is it! January is short term fixes mostly unless you can luck into a bargain in their last six months of a contract, force a move like we did with PVA, Hennessy and Dann and attempted to do with Vicente OR the selling club is making that much of a profit on the player and they need the cash for something else ie Luka. We'll get a loan because the club left a slot open on purpose. IF we sell a couple of players we might see another attacking player come in for around £13M ish but I'll bet it depends on two or more of Pape, Jonny, Mutch, Kai Kai, Punch or maybe Jairo going out the other way.

I can see Alex and/or Jairo getting loaned out however.

Loan with permanent option was what I was thinking.

A striker that works
Someone to come off the bench and make a difference.

Think the difference would be a loftus cheek type player who can carry the ball forward as we witnessed today we don't have one

If i allowed myself some optimism I would probably say for the first time in a while we are probably good in multiple areas for now. Keepers, defenders, even central midfield we have enough I think.

I think we are probably only 1, maybe 2, strikers and a winger who can provide competition short. Thats coming from a place where either Ayew is sent back or just ignored in general
