Fantastic bowler and character. Which youngster who saw him bowl didn't try and mimic his unique run up to the wicket?

Hells Bells - I remember listening to that test on the radio while painting the front of our house - it was one of those moments where I always remember where I was - it was magic just magic - thanks Bob.

those mahoosive run-ups when bowling. He was nearly in the stands by the time he started his runs. And his hair was just as big.

Totally agree.
Chris Sutton is trying to be the Bob Willis of Football (and failing)

Saw Bob bowl in two tests. V India 79 at oval and v oz 84 Headingley.

He was alongside Botham, Lillee, Holding and Hadlee my favourite bowler.

I love the story of Headingley 81 where mike Brearley got Willis bowling uphill and into the wind for a couple of overs. Much to Willis’ displeasure.

Then switched ends and 8-43....

Willis asked Brearley why he had bowled him uphill into the wind.

Brearley answered....”to make you angry”

I have rarely seen a more destructive piece of bowling than Bob Willis angry that day.

RIP Bob. Now resting alongside another hero from that Test “Picca” Dilley.

Yes i read that in the newspaper yesterday, i had no idea the poor man had a serious illness. As most would agree 70 is no age so it always comes as a surprise when it happens.

Saw a stat today - of the 41 England bowlers who have taken 100 Test wickets, only Fred Trueman had both a lower average and a better strike rate than Willis. He was genuinely one of England's best ever pace bowlers.

(As for the run up - yes, everyone tried it with that way his bowling arm flapped behind him as he ran.)

At his best he was not far off unplayable. Headingley 81 he got frightening lift off deliveries just short of a length. Thank you for the great service to cricket Bob. I hope you can rest in peace with lots of Dylan and Wagner.

I did!

I got his autograph as a kid, I loved watching cricket it those days but once they took it off the BBC I lost interest.

Used too often these days but he really was a legend. RIP big man.
