I'm not completely convinced but he is much younger and certainly seems more confident in front of goal/ likely to score.

Isn't it a lot cheaper to just try and get Bentekes confidence up?

Benteke costs us >6M a year in wages, and will be free to leave for 0 next summer. So, if anybody offered us 10M this summer, then effectively we are paying Benteke 16M for one season's work. I'd suggest it would better to accept if any such offer came in, and buy in a player on far lower wages. For example, if we hypothetically bought Che Adams for 15M, and paid him 3M a year, then we'd could realistically hope to be much better off in the long-term because we'd have an asset worth something on our books (unless he's complete shit a la Jordon Mutch).

I'm not sure. I guess that depends on what any deal for him to leave is and what any deal to sign Mitrovic would cost. There is also sense in planning for the future too.

But if Wickham and Ayew both leave is it possible we could have both?

I would quite like someone who can kick the ball into the net from anywhere between five and fifteen yards out on a consistent basis.

Not a striker but Ryan Babel has 4 goals and 4 assists in 12 games for Fulham and he's out of contract at the end of the season

Not a popular opinion, but I like Benteke, a confident Benteke is a class player, unfortunately that hasn't been the case for some time, but I can see something in him in recent games. He could have a decent end to the season. To describe him as a lump is somewhat discourteous. He does a solid job as a target man and if the goals come he's one hell of a player.

If his overhead kick had gone in when he returned from injury, it would have done him the World of good.

Hugely selfish player, scored a few but doesn't play in his teammates very much. Rondon has had a much better season and done a lot more in less minutes.

Lots of criticism of Benteke but how often has he failed to score regularly?

2012/13 - 19 in 31.5
2013/14 - 10 in 23.5
2014/15 - 13 in 26.5
2015/16 - 9 in 17
2016/17 - 15 in 35
2017/18 - 3 in 25
2018/19 - 0 in 7

Maybe it is the knee injury he picked up whilst a Palace player that has ruined him, maybe it is the way Hodgson plays but the past 2 seasons are the only ones where he has not been a 15 goal a season striker if he played all the time.

I'm sure I read Benteke has only scored 3 in his last 48 games for us but that doesn't tally with what you've set out above.

I don't know what it is but he appears to have lost it. He regularly hides now and, as another poster put it, he seems to have the equivalent of the yips.

But I do think there is something in the point you make about the Hodgson approach and how difficult it is for the strikers. I don't think I'd enjoy being a striker in a Hodgson team.

He's a 32m, 120k per week striker - surely it is justified to expect more than we are getting out of him? Wilbraham did a solid job as a target man and I didn't criticise him as he cost nothing and no doubt was on peanuts in comparison. Benteke has to be judged by a higher standard.

People are in the re-writing history phase now. So they are saying they always knew Fulham's strategy would not work, despite saying the opposite before.

Same applies to when you ask Palace fans if they wanted Dyche or the FDB at the end of last season

We do have the possibility of extending Benteke's contract. Also, whoever we bring in, if he's decent, is going to be on 80k a week minimum. And the transfer fee on top of that.

Benteke has forced Batshuayi out of the team, without scoring, because his all-round game and presence improves us as a side. Once he scores a few we won't be having this discussion. I still back Benteke to deliver. Happy to give him another season to see what he can do.
