He did have chances, he's played under numerous managers but he is always injured and in my opinion, he isn't good enough for the Premier League.

So farewell then, our Jonny,
You were the future star, You played for Wales in sun & gales, Your injuries went too far. We loved you then, we love you now, We said goodbye so many times, You kept coming back, So we gave you the sack. |

He only started 7 games in the entire season, and once back at us, got injured during pre season last summer as well. He then went to Charlton in January. Not entirely sure it's a dig at Roy any more than any other manager that has had him to pick from. Not sure it is entirely justified either, as he was hardly ever available for selection as it is, certainly not reliably.

I don't see any digs there, just some truths felt by him and a lot of us. He isn't a kid any more and so unless he was happy being a reserve for the rest of his career, he had to move on. Fair play to the guy. If he can stay injury free for a season, he'll do well in the Championship.
It's a big if though. |

So what’s the crack with Jonny? He’s now 25 and am I right in thinking he has no club going into pre season?
Such a waste for a talented footballer blighted with injuries. If someone took a punt on him and he managed to stay fit he’d be one hell of a signing. He was a cut above all the players when he came on on the play off final. |

He's training with Charlton.

He was.
I think they are hoping he will reduce his wages and he's hoping a bigger club comes in.

Sort of. You could say he took a pay rise from zero as he didn’t have a contract with anybody. I would presume Charlton offer was in the ball park of any other offers he was getting.

Great to see him seemingly fit and firing for both Charlton and Wales. A real top performance reportedly last night including setting up James for the goal. Still only 25 and hopefully now time to get his career going where it always looked like it would.

Only injuries prevented him from being as important to us as Zaha is/was imo. Once he gets a run of games his ability and talent is there for all to see. It’s why in general he thrives on the international level.
