I hope we don't look back in 20 years time and wistfully say that Palace used to be so well run!
I think Palace learned quite a lot from Charlton's 'well run' period. For all her current not replying to emails, the appointment of Sharon Lacey was a masterstroke. Together with the business brain of SP, she looked at tired things like the schoolgirl cheerleaders we used to have and totally overhauled it. As much as Br*ghton deride our 'Groupon' period, it got bums on seats, and the poster campaign facilitated by Dean Williams (with presumably the marketing nous of SP) really was a line in the sand as to a fresh start and the beginning of something big - 'Born in South London' a signal of intent that the academy products would be the catalyst for kick starting a revival of the clubs fortunes. Whilst it took a long time to actually achieve the desire to have a new crest, tidying up the tatty aspects of the stadium exterior, revamping merchandise, and fully embrading new media and communications have all played their part in giving us the modern club we enjoy now. Every managerial appointment bar Warnock has been a step forward, and for the first time since Coppell we have a top flight manager who doesn't just set his target as survival, but has genuine ambition. Charlton however are just a nursery for Anderlecht

they aren't because the bloke that owned Liege sold them in the summer.
so Charlton are his main club and he has other crappy ones. but still he gets all of the players from belgian clubs. the guy is dodgy in my eyes and he will get found out eventually.

Thanks dannyboy. That puts a different and very worrying complexion on things. As much as I dislike Charlton and some of their fans I wouldn't want them to be simply asset stripped. For one thing they as a club have been a good source of young players for England.

How can a club like Charlton ever be 'wasted'? It's like saying it would be a shame to flush a shit down the toilet

I just hope that if we have a good good finishing position for a few years people do not get aggravated if it doesn't get any better. Charlton shot them self in the foot by booing Curbs and his team.

My sister was in Bromley yesterday looking to see if next years Palace calendar was out yet (they're not). The girl in the shop seemed confused as she offered a Charlton one as an alternative.
My sister was singularly unimpressed and let the girl know what she could do with her "alternative".

Surely Charlton could play anywhere they wanted. All they need is one of Billy Smarts tents, a piece of green somewhere they can pitch it up and bingo a nice covered ground

Not sure Coppell was ever positive enough for that. His dour miserablism would've targeted survival as a first target, even if we were challenging for the title. He was never the most positive bless him.

Look what their Kent fans are up to now, 5th from bottom of the Championship, sliding and they're out trying to play the hard men act again to make them feel better, pathetic
