I was looking back last night, after 10 games of the season Crotone had 2 points. Last night they beat Lazio 3-1 whilat Empoli lost 2-1 to Palermo.
Not only a remarkable feat given how awful their start was, but refreshingly and certainly given it is Italian football, they stuck with Davide Nicola their manager who got them promoted the whole season, whilst teams like Palermo went through about 4 or 5 managers.

In the Serie B promotion play off semi finals currently Benevento lead Perugia 1-0 on aggregate, and Carpi - Frosinone is 0-0 from the first leg.
Personally I like seeing new teams get promoted so I hope Benevento make it up as they have never been in Serie A whilst the other three have, admittedly Carpi and Frosinone only one season each though.

Very emotional day in Rome today....having followed Roma and Totti for the last 10 years as well as from a distance before that, it really does feel like the end of an era. I am proud to have watched Totti play in person. The difference between the farewells of Gerrard and Terry with Totti's was night and day.

Totti is a true legend. A bit of a weird one in some ways. Clearly a very talented guy but had a habit of going missing during big games. The weird thing is I still remember him coming through as a young lad and although he has been around for ages it seems surreal he is now retiring. Same will probably be said when Buffon hangs up his gloves, I still remember the gangly 16 year old playing for Parma or when he was 17 coming on for Italy, doesn't feel like he is pushing 40 now.
I'm not usually that sentimental when it comes to football but having won just about everything in football it would be great to see him lift the Champions League trophy next Saturday.

I think this comment pretty much sums up how remarkable Crotone staying up is...

Went to Cagliari v Inter Milan yesterday. Cagliari play in red n blue so was the obvious team to support. After taking a shock lead AC Milan had a pen saved and then scored a pen. AC Milan then went down to ten men.
It was the last game in their stadium. 93rd min free kick for Cagliari and they score with the last ever kick in the ground. Fantastic support. Pleased for them.

Didn't realise that the three League winners in Lega Pro Play in a mini tournament too called the Supercoppa di Lega Pro. Apart from winning a nice trophy it doesn't really mean anything, I guess the winner could say they are the overall Lega Pro winner if they want. Anyway this year Foggia won it.
Cremonese 1-2 Venezia Foggia 3-1 Cremonese Venezia 2-4 Foggia

Benevento beat Perugia 2-1 on aggregate so will meet Carpi in the Serie B Play Off Final, first leg tomorrow, second leg on Thursday. Carpi have spent one season in Serie A (2015/16) and Benevento have never been in Serie A.

Parma on the way back? Sorry to hear that Lecce have crashed out, we were in the city on Saturday and I liked their kit!

Seems the Semi Finals and Final in Lega Pro are One leg seeing as Parma vs Pordenone is on the 13th June, Alessandria vs Reggiana is the 14th June and then the Final is on the 17th.
I reckon a Parma vs Alessandria Final but not sure who I want to win. Would be harsh on Alessandria not to get promoted to be honest.

Dragging myself away from the thrill of the General Election for a minute, the Second Leg of the Serie B Play Off Final takes place tonight between Benevento and Carpi, the score is 0-0 at the moment.

Thanks for keeping this thread going Latvian Eagle
Just caught up on some of the playoff highlights. Feel sorry for the Cosenza keeper. So many good saves after being constantly exposed by his defence, then beaten in the 97th minute. And how did the second leg remain goal-less??? Also super happy with Atalanta's season. Let's hope they don't get asset-stripped and can have another top half finish next season. |
