Aleksandar Mitrovic signs for Fulham

Obviously pure speculation and a lot on here were not keen in January when we were linked.

Seems like a Roy kind of player though.

We have 3 options for the tall, hold up man with varying amounts of pace thrown in there. Unless Benteke moves on i cannot see why we would want 4 players all of whom will do a similar job, especially when he is likely to cost 8 figures. Cover is one thing but i think we have that.

That's what I was thinking. If we could get a decent fee for Benteke maybe we would cut our losses so to speak. They perception outside the club seems to be that he just had a poor season which may well be true and valuations on players have gone up since he came in. Maybe he is still worth £20-25m to?

Not saying I necessarily agree by the way. I'm caught in two minds about him more than any other player.

Preece was clearly out of his depth and was a "Plan D" for uncle Ron after he bulked at the price for Stewart (Which he'd previously agreed) and then a deal for Gordon Watson fell through and we were also linked with USA 94' star Kennett Anderson.
At the time Armstrong was being linked with Leeds & Everton and Ron reunited Preece with Armstrong (where they'd played together at Wrexham 5 years earlier) he had one purple patch in October with goals against Coventry, Leicester and Everton but was so limited and one dimensional.

btw: I'd take Mitrovic if we sold Benteke (and invest £££ elsewhere), clearly a character but also a talented physical striker.

Is he actually any good? I mean championship level he is decent, but he's not done much at our level. If one of our forwards is off then fair play, but we really need a different option.

Agreed. If we're bringing in another striker, I'd like it to be someone with pace who can run in behind or drift out wide and cut in. We looked so good with Townsend and Zaha up front that I'd like a player that can fit in that system.

I've gone on about Dembele enough, but also wonder whether that Munir is worth another look. He's had a respectable season and his loan has come to an end. We're a different prospect to last year and not sure whether Barcelona will keep him on.

Mitrovic is a handfull, but can only see him coming in another leaves tbh.

He's got a decent goals per minute ratio for newcastle in the Prem. Had a lot of sub appearances for them which makes the goals per game seem worse. Doesn't seem to fit what Rafa Benitez does but is a good player.

Only concern he'll be overvalued. Especially if Fulham get promoted (maybe even if they don't). He's not worth north of 20 mill right now but may go for more than that if there is a bidding war.

In a 4-4-2 if Zaha is one o the strikers we have Benteke, Wickham and Sorloth so it is the cover for Zaha we need.

It was interesting hearing the Times podcast this week where Roy was hugely complimentary of Mitrovic, at the end of which Cascarino threw in "he's on the way to Palace then". Roy basically was saying that Mitrovic's play in bringing others in, holding up, using the ball was the best he'd seen in that role for many years

After that Hodgson mentioned him again later when discussing Serbia in the World Cup.

Whatever the realities he's certainly a big fan

He is far more mobile than Benteke Wickham and sorloth. Will close defenders down all game. He’s a different option.

It's amazing how someone starts a "discussion" about a random player, and somehow this immediately morphs into "we are after Mitrovic/about to sell Benteke". How does that happen ? Is it just the result of dire comprehension ?

And I believe Ron was after Stockport hero Kevin Francis (6' 7''), but they wouldn't sell, so he bought Francis' strike partner Andy Preece (only 6' 2'').

He said pretty much the same about RL-C, are you sure he didn't get his notes mixed up ?

He did have a purple patch, scored i think 4 goals in about 4 games, there was even a super 6 video which came out!

I remember the headline Preecey does it, as he scored in a 3-1 friendly win against Arsenal, and thought, we're on to a winner here!

He nearly got the shit kicked out of me when he hit the post v Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and I was sat in the home end.

I'm still pissed off that we got Gareth Taylor instead of Marcus Stewart!
