You’re right, but I would have an issue with him taking as much as half a season to be gently introduced to the team. Not an issue with Adams or Roy if he’s not ready to start in the premier league, but an issue with the fact that what we need is a striker who can come in and start games straight away. So if Adams isn’t that man, maybe we’d be better off looking elsewhere. I really just have no faith in Wickham’s fitness and Benteke’s ability. Benteke’s like how Emile Heskey was at the end of his career, does an okay job holding the ball up but offers little else and looks a complete donkey in front of goal. Although, even in his prime Heskey was best in a front two, so maybe that’s what we should be doing.

No I think he would break into the team. He's quick, young and obviously has an eye for goal. We have been missing that for several seasons, since Andy Johnson with 74 goals in 140 appearances between 2002-2006. He was also signed from Birmingham. |

The service from the wings is way better than when he was here, even if the midfield creativity is not improved. A player who hits the target, given a decent chance, like Gayle, would be very welcome right now.

I’ve not seen anywhere near enough of him to tell, but buying strikers from the Championship is always a gamble. The ones that seem to work are where teams focus on particular traits that fit with their style of play (Chris Wood at Burnley is an excellent example of this).
I don’t even what the club want out of a striker. I hope the club do.

Issue is that we brought an established premier league striker who seeemed perfect for us and that isn’t working out either.

Then we appointed de Boer, who wanted to play in a style that is totally the opposite of what you would do with your largest investment. Then he got injured, and we were playing a more mobile style not really suited to him. That’s not to say he has done well, he’s been poor, very poor. But if you want to maximise Benteke you play to his aerial strength (where he is very very good) as opposed to anything else (where he is below average). And we don’t. Benteke is not a rounded footballer, his value as a player derives from one or two facets of the game, possibly more so than any other striker out there that someone might be to pay £25m plus on.

I wouldn’t be against Adams as a signing but as has been said, we would need to play 2 up front for him to have any chance of making it

gayle’s issue was he wasn’t an intelligent footballer. His off the ball work in particular was very very very poor. He certainly had some natural talent, and he he was fine if the ball fell to him and he didn’t have to think. But you need a bit more than that. He was a bit like the opposite of Frasier Campbell who was actually a pretty bright footballer, did all the right things, but was just not very good. You sort of wonder what Gayle would have been had he had years of very good coaching like Campbell clearly had, but he didn’t, and it is very hard to make that up. Still he is going to have a decent career and make a ton of money, which given he was playing non-league football until his early twenties is impressive. Good for him.

15m now... another good season double it. A poor season probably less than half I’ve not seen him enough to know if it’s a flash in the pan and the season of his life or if he’ll go on to be a top player but an exiting prospect. Always a gamble though
