Every year it can only really be March / April that our status is secure, and the next season starts in August. That leaves a 4 month window to get everything underway before the possibility of losing our first three matches of the following season and pausing again until we secure our status!!! It's also possible we secure our status, then get relegated while building work is going on. Surely we can't be spending £100m on a new stand to be financed by future income?

Feck having a concrete update. Hurts your feet after you stand on it for 90 minutes. We need a sandstone update. Reflects and amplifies the sound.

Exactly....If Premier League stability (safety) is the criteria to getting the build underway, it will never get built.

By strange coincidence, I was recently at a family event abroad and got chatting to someone who had been closely involved with the original design concept of the new stand. He was quite skeptical that it would be built any time soon because of the continuing complications around the land ownership, Sainsbury’s disinterest in doing a deal and SP’s ‘hands on’ approach to project management. No real surprises in what he said, and only one person’s opinion, but seems fairly plausible.

Agree with that it sounds plausible. And SP made an announcement on the stand recently anyway, it's gonna take a bit longer than he thought, its going slow. Any announcement is likely just to let us know the timescale is slowing more and more. Just can't imagine anything else other than filler shit not containing any real news as such.

It's not his money to spend apparently. It's ring fenced by the Americans.

Saw this today - it looks in great detail at the various rail seat options already open to Premier and Championship clubs.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

There are some types of rail seats which are slim enough that in the future capacities could actually be increased subject to legislation changes being adopted

I don’t think anyone would be surprised by this. I think, reading between the lines, most of us realised that the hold-up was probably to do with agreeing a deal with Sainsbury’s. If they have no interest at all, it’s going to make any development at Selhurst almost impossible.

As for ‘SP’s hands-on approach’, I have no problem with that. I’d have more concern if he didn’t!

If we really can’t make progress with Sainsbury’s, we really should look at other options or go back to previous ideas to see if those can’t be tweaked to get something that the Council would approve elsewhere.

This whole process has already taken far too long. I’d like to think that in my lifetime, the club would play in a stadium that enables us to compete with the best.

I was always hoping we could've done a combined project with Sainsburys so that both parties could end up with a modernised solution to the current situation. Instead it still seems like we are effectively hostile neighbours unless we pay the ridiculous amount they want for it.

It is nothing to do with getting a CPO past anyone's solicitors although you are quite right that Sainsburys would be a lot more active and have a lot more firepower in any CPO application than a small householder.

We cannot CPO anything - only the council can CPO land. There are long and difficult procedures to go through and they could be open to challenge. It is worth remembering that a CPO does get you the ground for free either you have to pay what it is worth in any event. Sainsburys would still be in a position to argue their land is worth a lot of money if they can say it always has a ransom element that does not just apply to this development as well as claiming loss of value of their remaining land etc. It would be up to an independent body to make the decision as to what it is worth.

This is a useful leaflet if you want to see what is involved - it is not a get out of jail free card especially if you are looking at something that is not a straightforward premises

Same here Billy. Would have removed a huge obstacle. As it turns out though due to the design and layout of the bodge, its become a huge blessing in disguise.

Pretty sure that if we even aimed for even a modest capacity increase in the lower Holmesdale, one of the first things we would have to look at would be using the space underneath as an extra concourse to cope with bigger crowds.

If not, I suspect the Hol, like most exciting stands elsewhere in the country, would be restricted to a 1:1 conversion.

New builds are realistically the only way most clubs will be able to take advantage of any legislative changes which could (hopefully) allow up to 1:1.8. (1.8 person standing to one seat.)
