Actually, profit at a football club is inefficient and can be vanity.
For most medium sized clubs, it is far better to invest in facilities and/or top young prospects than return profit to the owners, or save it "for a rainy day", picking up a nice tax liability along the way.

It was £46m in the 2017/18 accounts and will be very similar in the current year ending next month.

A list of the 32 most valuable football clubs have been released today; To view the link you have to Register or Login

No sign of Palace in the 32 but surprised that a club like Newcastle aren't in the list. Surely they're worth more then say Celtic due to being in the Premier League or is it all about the value of European football and brand identity.

It's all to do with the selection criteria:

1. Clubs must be among the top 50 European teams by total operating income
2. Clubs must be among the top 50 teams according to the 5-year UEFA coefficient

If one of the above criteria is not fulfilled then:

3. It is among the top 30 European teams by number of social media followers (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube combined) as at 1 Jan 2019

38 clubs met the selection criteria and were analysed by KPMG. The top 32 were ranked according to 'Enterprise Value' (profitability, popularity, sporting potential, broadcasting rights and stadium ownership). The 6 runner-ups weren't English clubs.

yep. i've played enough football manager to know that throwing spare cash at 15 year old south americans is always better than giving it to the tax man.

Guess most of the 12 clubs that didn't meet the criteria were English due to not competing in Europe. What does that have to do with the estimated value of a club though? Makes the list redundant to my mind.

Extra match-day income, extra prize money, extra sponsorship, It also enables clubs to attract better and more valuable players. Leicester made £73.2m from their Champions League run.

key point is that all the money goes to the players whether we are in the Premier League or Championship. The only difference is that there are less matches we stand a chance in

Expect big changes soon to curb the financial power of the Premier league big clubs and their domination of European football.

UEFA are not happy and neither are some of Europe's biggest clubs who are calling for change.

Having 4 Premier league clubs through to the Finals has not gone down well.

Champions League won in 2008, 2012 and 2019. Prior to that 2005. Spanish clubs have won it 10 times in the 2000s.

Europa League won in 2013, 2017 and 2019. Prior to that 2001. Spanish clubs have won it 8 times in the 2000s.

It's still a miracle that Spurs and Liverpool got to the final so I doubt anyone is getting worked up.

Much as I'd like to agree with you, I really don't think this will happen.

An interesting read, compared us to the rest of the premier league. Debunks many myths!
