An article on a website called devlopcroydon.com has the following:

“It is a complicated project, but we would really like to be onsite in the summer of 2020 to do the enabling works with an estimated two-and-a-half-year build time.”

- CPFC’s Development Manager, Guy Wickett

Guy Wickett is the chap that people jokingly called 'David Baddiel' during the planning committee meeting

Until the issue of the replacement houses (at least 6 x 4 bedroomed*) is resolved, as in Palace finding a site somewhere in the Borough to develop, and secure planning permission for same, then it is largely irrelevant what deal we might come to with Sainsbury's for their land.

It certainly felt to me like the club were chucking money at the whole scheme a year ago, which secured the planning from Croydon, but now it all feels like it's ground to a painful halt.

*I guess there is no sign of any such developments by Sterling Rose Homes, the clubs strategic property partner?

There have been precedents set in other London Boroughs, where replacement houses are waived, for an appropriate donation into the Council Housing Fund.

Well something has to be done to break the impasse! You'd think giving some shelter for the homeless might have made some inroads!

There is a natural tendency to see any sort of delay or issue as a uniquely Palace issue.

Have a look around.

Very rarely do these projects "just happen" unless there is a vacant site in the sticks somewhere. Especially in London.

Spurs new ground has been in the offing for years, same with Chelsea (now delayed indefinitely). Brentfords is underway but that scheme goes back a long time. Fulham's new stand has had a complete design change from the original a few years back and they do not have the complexity of housing to deal with. As for Liverpool's main stand... that was conceived yonks ago; with housing being their biggest stumbling block.

Even AC Milan cant get a new stadium sorted and they have been leaving the San Siro for over a decade.

The main thing is Parish and co did the difficult bit; the plans are better than most of us hoped for and we have planning permission.

I'm in construction.

2.5 years build time, for 1 stand!

I hope our competitors do programme and price the scheme for that length, then we will win the tender for sure!

I agree....and when you consider how many years the Croydon Westfield development has taken, you have to speculate that our council is particularly slow (that’s putting what I really think v politely).

I think you're highlighting the real issue. It's not how long it's going to take, more whether it will happen. The Westfield situation will be a disaster for Croydon if it doesn't happen, likewise our development for us.

We have the best opportunity we've ever had to finally develop the Main stand but based on our previous experiences it would be "typical Palace" if we ballsed it up.

Parish has definitely talked a better game on the stadium than he has been able to deliver. We unquestionably have the most dated stadium in the premier league. It's not a stadium i dislike having secured decent (ish) seats from the championship days but the reality is it's holding the club back because sitting in many of the seats down the side of the pitch at selhurst is uncomfortable with a poor view. You simply can't expand the fanbase when all you have to sell are crappy seats with barely any facilities to enjoy a pre and post match drink and snack.

What a stupid post. Your issues have been answered already with the club obtaining planning permission to build the new stand. Delays happen. the real-world is complicated.

Ironically enough (and i am guessing you voted for Brexit); i suspect the uncertainty faced by the economy, business and the like, not to mention completely dysfunctional government) is probably contributing to the delays.

You should write to the club. I don't think that was ever discussed. Planning permission for that would have been easy to get.
