I normally look at stuff like this and BJ’s statements and neuter them thinking that shit can’t and won’t ever happen. History tells me it won’t as the only examples of government overriding law are in rogue states and the uk, to some of my clients, is anything but a rogue state (often upon my advice).

As the days tick by I am becoming less confident that I can confidently say we will not go rogue. £32 billion offer from HK makes me feel a bit better that we are less rogue than China, but hey, a year ago being a bit less rogue than China wasn’t where I saw the uk.

If I’m asked to gather data on citizens through our local authority systems, I won’t be doing it without a court order.

Small protests and all that.

I see the Yellowhammer document also covers something regarding the Irish border

Quote:
The document also concedes that there will be a return to some sort of hard Irish border despite a UK insistence it will not impose checks: “This model is likely to prove unsustainable due to significant economic, legal and biosecurity risks and no effective unilateral mitigations to address this will be available.”
So the government know they will need "some sort of hard border" and all this "we won't put up any border checks" is complete cobblers. This in turn also recognizes that the government are perfectly willing to knowingly break the GFA. All in the name of Brexit.

How can anyone with any sense of what is right for the country trust these people and in turn not question then, the veracity of the claims made in favour of Brexit?

The brexiters on here and in this country are an absolute bunch of mugs. Wishing the country down the toilet so the rich can get richer.

Maybe David Davis was right when he said it was the easiest deal in history. He was talking about not bothering to do one at all.

I have been told I am utter scum for wishing property prices to rise to make me richer and yet make it harder for FTB to get on the ladder.

Interesting in that it's talking about his cunning plan, rather than asking why he hasnt resigned?

Two months into his premiership and Boris Johnson has so far:

1. Lost his majority.
2. Lost a by-election.
3. Lost every single vote held in parliament.
4. Lost 22 Conservative MPs.
5. Instructed the Queen to break the law.

Two points on this - firstly it's possible that Johnson thinks chaos and division are winners for him, but he's wrong. Another possibility is that it's good for the short term goal of achieving Brexit by the 31st of October - i still think that he will come back more or less with May's plan, and perhaps get it through - but bad for Johnson / the Tories.
And of course it is possible that it gets Brexit through and then hands him a spanking majority.

But, like Trump, still popular with his base. The days of trying to appeal to a broad section of society seems to be gone. Now it's appeal to your base in the most base way possible; double down on it; and hope that it's just enough to get you over the line. Then rinse and repeat.

Indeed. The days of the one nation Tory are numbered. It's not that long ago that Kwasi Kwarteng would have been sacked for his comments about judges.

Perhaps at some point in the future people will look back and regard the immediate post WW2 period in the UK as some sort of Golden Age. Maybe even as the second Elizabethan Golden Age...

I haven't seen anything on here to suggest that his antics have lost him any votes among the BBS tory contingent. The moderates had already washed their hands.

No you won't on here. Those that are left who continue to post are part of the hard 30% of the electorate that are quite happy to support Johnson come what May and regardless of circumstances and consequences, and are simply total hopeless and constant apologists for his actions.

More propaganda, to feed the hysteria. 'Connected to' mmm rich people, etc. blah blah. You believe this and use it to propagate your stance on the current situation, then you are as gullible as the extra £350m into the NHS claims from Farage.

Anyone care to state the Long positions? After all, hedge funds never just put all the money on one outcome? (it's in the name)

And of course if you think hedge funds have the ability to have a negative effect on sterling then you're ignorant as to what moves the markets. Let alone take a whole country out of the EU.
