iMac... what a load of crap.

Have 15 of them in my new classroom and so much for them being less buggy and more stable than a Windows based PC. The bloody things constantly crash, run like a dog and don't load applications but also give no error messages.

Give me a Windows PC over them any day

Mine has never crashed in five years.

You should probably stop downloading porn on them. It might not make you go blind, but it sounds like it is buggering up your computers.

MBP - 8mths never crashed.
Work PC - crashes weekly and needs lengthy s/w updates far too frequently.

First piece of software I try to run on them was Robomind:
To view the link you have to Register or Login

Works on two of the 15 iMacs. I understand it could be a software problem, but the iMac doesn't even give me an error. It bumps up on the App bar and then simply disappears. It's such a small, simple program I can't understand how it doesn't work.

I then started to use Scratch (To view the link you have to Register or Login, but whenever my students attempt to share projects online, the iMacs drop a shadow like screen and say they need to restart. It seems to be the equivalent of the blue screen of death on Windows.

Finally, when I lock machine using Remote Desktop, all the machine lock, but when I try to unlock them around 5 stay locked and require a restart.

I'm not saying Windows is perfect by any means, but all this Apple computers are amazing is a load of rubbish if my first few weeks experience is anything to go by.

I do plan on wiping and cloning them over the October half term so that will be the real test of how good they are. If they are still crap then I won't be happy.

Oh and don't even get me started about the cost of peripherals. How the hell does a wired mouse and keyboard cost nearly £60?!?!

I wouldn't know what words are used in nerd land. I'll ask a M$ techie next time I see one

I wish I could have waited to roll out 10.7. Unfortunately, when Apple release an OS at the start of July, you can't ask schools - who tend to buy new kit in the summer holidays - to wait six months while Apple get it to work properly. If I could've got my hands on a iMac that still shipped with Snow Leopard I would, but Apple don't give you a choice. M$ may be a bunch of twunts, but at least even now you can still get a copy of XP if you wanted to. Imagine the squealing if they'd stopped shipping it straight away, forcing Win admins to go to Vista?

There's only one reason FCX is the mess it is - to fit in a download from the App Store. Logic X might be different, the application itself isn't as huge as FCP was. At a guess, it'll be dramatically chopped in price and you'll have to pay extra to get the instruments, jam packs etc that were supplied with Pro/Studio and formed a big part of the 60gb odd full install.

Still, I'm sure there's someone out there that needs an Apple-certified Directory Services specialist. Russ - put the recruitment people on alert... I'll be calling them on Monday morning

I haven't yet installed Lion but from using the iPhone the scrolling falls into two styles:

1) You move a viewing window over the top of the fixed data. This is the 'old style' previously used on the Mac.
2) You move the data that is residing under a fixed viewing window. This is the 'natural scrolling'.

It becomes a lot easier once you realise if you're moving the viewing window or the data.
