Heaps sausage shop and restaurant in Greenwich. A nice place for a carnivorous Eagle acting the returning hero after another conquest at the Valley. Some funny recipes

My local market Freeds does some mean sausages. You can get a t-shirt from them that says: "You can't beat our meat"

Listen, I specified chipolatas as a breakfast sausage not to have with mash, chips and beans etc. So there.

And there's nowt wrong with a bit of cross dressing.

Around here some of us do have some taste even if Worksop is just up the road. Uncle Henrys is just up the road. Farm shop that makes its own sausages on site. The Lincolnshire ones have won a number of awards. For those who like added flavour they do others. The sausage meat is great for home made sausage rolls. Is there a difference its noticeable when you cook them, far less fat/water in the pan and there is a texture to the sausage cut a Richmond its smooth processed meat, cut one of these it textured meat. They make them on site you dont go into Tescos and get told dont use the sausage meat until tomorrow we only made it this morning you need to let the flavour soak in at least overnight.

^^^

They are made from animals kept in horrendous conditions, they contain vile rubbish and have only 42% pork in them
The ingredients of a Richmond are:

Pork (42%), Water, Pork Fat (10%), Rusk (Wheat), Potato Starch, Soya Protein Concentrate. Salt, Flavourings, Stabilisers: Diphosphates, Guar Gum; Antioxidants: E300 & E307; Preservative: Sodium Metabisulphate, Colour: Cochineal.

The second biggest ingredient is water which is appalling. The meat in them is high fat. E300 and E307 basically stop the fat content from turning rancid, therefore giving them a longer shelf life. They contain sulphites that aren't remotely good for you, especially if you have asthma or other breathing difficulties. They are even coloured. Why should sausages even have to be coloured, other than to hide the fact there is so little meat in them?

So, yes, it's definitely worth paying a few extra pence for local produce. The more low quality, mass produced rubbish meat that people buy, the more harm there is to farmers and local producers. Buying better quality sausages doesn't have to mean spending a fortune. Go to local farm shops, farmers markets and you'll be far better off than going to the supermarket. We generally get our bangers from Pineger's butchers in Cheam.

Villagers Sausages in Beckenham do a wide range of fantastic handmade sausages. I had some of their Oxford sausages on Monday and they were absolutely delicious with perfect texture and herbing.
They have a penchant for experimentation too and always have some interesting, weird or wonderful flavours on sale alongside the more traditional.

They are the ones who did 'Ken & Eddys' as a go at recreating the best sausages in London, sadly defunct when Kennedys closed
