Whilst that may be true, he's better than Morgan.

What will be the rankings (in terms of points) if we win the 4th Test as well?

He is a better talent than morgan, but I think Morgan seems to have more of a level head and buys into the team ethos more than bopara.

You mean like Edgbaston, where our batsman and bowler with best averages were both out injured?

(Have not checked Tremlett's average with Bresnan, so apologies if this is not entirely correct!)

[Edit] based on back of fag packet calculations, Tremlett had a better average than Bresnan before he got injured, but not at the start of Edgbaston test.

Maybe.

Still there are three or four players I would have ahead of either of them.

Going to the Oval Friday, Should be good.

Some interesting fixtures next year will test England though. Sri Lanka (away) SA (home) India (away) If they are still top in 18 months they will have done well.

I think that's more to do with ECB promoting County Cricket - certainly Trott always held a British passport, which would usually be sufficient to play for England. I don't dispute that KP & Trott had the majority of their cricket development in SA, but I'm not sure what point you are trying to make - or is Cesc Fabregas now more English than Spanish as the majority of his development has been in London?

My point is that if a player has English parents/grandparents then I find criticism of them for playing for England to be churlish, especially when they have come a place where a substantial number of Brits have emigrated to in the recent past. Were England seriously thinking of giving a cap to Manuel Almunia on the other hand.......

I am less worried about their heritage, but moreso where they they learned to play the game and what they consider themselves to be.

England was second choice to KP and Trott as neither could get a game for South Africa, or in KP's case even a game for his state side. That sits uneasily with me. I am more comfortable with KP than Trott as he wasn't seen supporting South Africa against England shortly before being called up for England.

My point is that if a player is good enough to play for England, and has a legitimate claim to do so, then it shouldn't matter if they were brought up on Mars, and we certainly shouldn't pander to the mainly Aussie-originated excuses that we are team made up of ringers. Hick was, none of the current batch are.

You pick the best team available to you. If the selectors do not do that they are not doing their jobs. Equally it is not as if KP or Trott was poached / sponsored by the ECB from SA, they came of their own accord. We are not the NZ rugby team after all.

But that does not mean I have to be pleased with it.

Not sure what England would reach but I do know that India would fall to 116, behind South Africa (the real second-best Test side).

Someone mentioned the strength-in-depth of bowling earlier. It speaks volumes that behind a front-line seam attack of Anderson-Tremlett-Broad there is Bresnan, Finn and Onions (who has just been called into the squad as cover with doubts about Anderson's fitness for the 4th Test).

To be honest I always thought it was KP's intention to play for England. I guess I'm wrong. I don't know about Trott on the other hand.
