Another one for GP Thorpe here. I much admired his many displays of steely eyed determination when the rest of the side was being blown away by the likes of the man below.

Of other nations I'd say Curtley Ambrose. I used to love watching him on a role like when he skittled us for 46.

In the good old days of cricket on the BBC, I always used to cancel gardening activities and watch when Gower, Botham and Lamb came to the crease. And Derek Underwood was a top man and a gentleman to boot.

So they asked the Bearded Wonder what was the longest time that a player had gone without scoring a run. He came up with the following statistic:

"Chris Tavare holds the record by batting for 1 hour and 10 minutes without scoring a run.
The second longest was Chris Tavare at one hour and 5 minutes.
Both of these feats were achieved in the same innings"

As i say, i'm not sure what the exact timings or cirucmstances were, but safe to say it was for not scoring for a long time twice in the same innings.

Pretty sure that's an urban myth - told by the great Brian Johnston as something he wished he'd said (or could have said)...

Another one to throw into the mix from the late 1980s / 90s - Ian Austin.

cheers; Stuart

BJ said he didn't say it, Blowers said he did. IIRC someone wrote in to TMS to pick BJ up on it.

As for mine, not going for the obvious one for me, but instead for ..........hmm this needs some thought.

Yes, the original quote was something like 'Godstone's sucking his housemate's willy' and over the years it evolved into something completely different.

I think it is unclear whether he really said it or not: Blowers has been quoted as saying he did.

Perhaps that's the game where 'Statto' from Skinner and Baddiel's Fantasy Football picked up a barstool, went onto the pitch and plonked it down on the batting crease for Tavare to put his feet up?
