I've heard it all now.
So the Americans should give the States back to the Native Americans and we should give Australia back to the Aborigines and the Spanish and Portuguese should ensure that South America is handed back to the Aztecs.

Whatever the residents thinks hahaha. Well if the residents get kicked out against their will I hope England will be accommodating enough to settle myself and 20 million other Aussies after we hand back the country to the aborigines . . .

Its so far off their shore, over 350miles Their claim is that they are the closest country..

Stand by for a French claim on Britain. It's only fair.

Nope, not in this case.
Also in the most recent vote on sovereignty only 3 residents voted for independence from Britain.
Falkland islanders very much want to be part of British commonwealth and would see any approach from Argentina as invasive.
Argentina have never, ever had control over the Falkands except for a short period in 81(not going there). It was settled by the poms before Argentina was an independent nation so there is no case to answer.
Yes we know it is all really about access to oil and mineral reserves but that aside, Falklanders deserve the right to make their own allegiences.

Wow.

I know. Its changed hands lots of times. They had it for 18 months - in the 19th century, big deal.

If it wasn't for oil, they wouldn't be interested or have started a war for it. If it wasnt for oil, we would have probably relinquished it by now.

I really don't think there's anything to be seen here Mike. The issue about certain folk seeing Thatcher as some sort of patron saint is neither here nor there.

It's new world and there were no indigenous people - it's not like hong kong or something.

Perhaps we should hand them over to Spain. It's a ridiculous nonsense and a blind alley.

We had an agreement with Argentina to split 66.6% 33.3% to share on all natural resources. But in 1995 their sabre rattling government ripped it up. So they only have themselves to blame.

Its come to the fore again because Rockhopper struck oil at their Sealion in 2010.. And now they are kicking up a stink. We've ignored them, we went to war with them..their claim is as strong as wet tissue.

I tend to think it's more about domestic politics - kicking up a fiddle over something irreleveant to placate conservatives much like the spanish do regards gibraltar when catalans edge closer to being a seperate nation.

Oh Mike.

So anyone but the people who have lived there all their lives should decide on whose land it is ?
(Census from 2012 reports 2563 - source: To view the link you have to Register or Login)

After being invaded, occupied, and having people deported and others treated like POW's - would you want Argentina in control?

Apparently 59% consider themselves Falkland Islanders (29% British)

Could they not be recognised Internationally as an independent Country ?

On what basis is the Falklands Argentinian ?
Answer, none whatsoever .
Any one who wants to hand them over to the Argentinians has an anti British agenda fuelled by their own personal prejudices.

I wonder how we would feel if the Isle of Wight had a Pakistani majority who voted to join with Pakistan and declare Sharia Law?
