Surely with the kid only 15 it seems a bit early to be narrowing to one branch of IT? If not only to save your kids sanity and options, then also because the tech world moves at such a pace that what the best focuses are could shift very easily by the time she's coming through a degree.

My advice would be to get her to try a few different outlets to find out what side of IT she enjoys most. As many above have said though, getting some skills in programming is a great place to start.

There will always be a demand for people IT support services. "Have you tried switching it off an on".

I did spend a short time with an outfit that had to say "Have you tried a power down", much more sophisticated of course.
