Top class striker when he plays. The problem is he doesn't play.

Would much rather get Batshuayi back.

You could argue he hasn't played for Liverpool a lot over the last few years, but I wonder in that time how often he's been fit, just not selected as better players in front of him. We naturally assume if players like Sturridge and Wickham are not in the match day squad then they are injured but could just be because they are not selected. I think Connor was fit the back end of last season, but not always in the squad.

Didnít klopp famously pronounce that Sturridge declared himself unfit if he wasnít 100% fit and that footballers were rarely 100% fit.

This.

A lot of the social media goodbye stuff I've seen is the silly dance after he scored against us a few seasons back, maybe that's what he'll be remembered for when he retires?

He's nowhere near being the same player, but I wouldn't be against it if he wanted to play under his former England boss Hodgson. He's not that old is he, and he obviously still has talent. On a free transfer and if we were able to get rid of the wages for Sorloth, Riedewald, Sako and Ayew then he could be useful and contribute more than they did for us last season for example.

Would prefer Welbeck though.

One's on a free, the other is £30m.

Another player of 'what may have been'. When he was fit - he's easily international and Champs league class. Anyone who saw him absolutely ruin DD at Anfield a few years back, would see that. His goal in the Europa League, Chelsea last season. Moments of absolute top class magic.

A shame for England.

Getting any striker is a risk, this would be larger than any.

I would agree but Batshuayi is a £6m/yr amortised fee and a further £5m/yr on wages for 5 years. The total deal would be £55m. (That assumes a £30m fee and £100k/wk wages which might be on the low side)

A 3 year deal for Sturridge on his current £120k/wk wages would cost £6.25m a year so he is half the cost of Batshuayi.

As much as i would rather we go for Batshuayi i wonder how much any incoming transfers will be based more on financial element, and in that regard Sturridge might make more sense.

But if he’s injury prone and signing him prevents us from signing someone who would play regularly and keep us in the premier league then the money considerations change significantly

True but how much of an issue is that?

Sturridge has not been named in the matchday squad 4 times i think in 2019. Liverpool have played 26 games in that time.

I don't like his wavey arms goal celebration. He let the Main Stand get a good look at it celebrating an own goal whilst his team mates were busy fetching the ball as they wanted to score about 9 goals & win the league. What a great night.

Another person spouting the never fit issue.

See above, named in 22 out of 26 match day squads in 2019.

It difficult one, Batschuayi ready and firing on all cylinders, over a season i think certainly capable of hitting 15 goals, the problem being both the fee and wages..

Sturridge on paper looks a steal, no transfer fee and probably slightly less in terms of wage demands, but his injury but spell at West Brom was Pardews final failed gamble.

An almighty risk

Trouble is he didn't stay fit and we have form in fragile strikers. Perhaps better spending on one who is less breakable?
