It's sort of disheartening that people are posting on here that they see Dyche as the manager to keep us up... At what point do we start looking for a manager to take us to the next level, to replace the aging squad with a young team with a style of his making that can compete for a top 10 place.

Employing a manager to keep you from being relegated seems to lack any ambition.

Having said that, to do otherwise could lead to a Malcolm Allison situation... which having lived through once might not be a bad thing.

Well we tried that with FDB.

End of next season (if there is a full one) I am pretty sure Roy will retire and in the months leading up to that point we can worry about it.

You raise a good point in regard to FdB, which highlights the problem we have.

The club cannot afford to be relegated, I appreciate that, but every other scenario is going to be like groundhog day.

It's sort of interesting that at Atlanta United, FdB started off as badly as he did at Inter and Palace, but they stuck with him, and actually turned it around. It should be noted though that he took over a very good team that were MLS champions, so maybe not the same, but from what I understand, he totally had them ****ed up at first, until the team got on board with his philosophy. They are now back to being a winning team (before the shutdown).

Nothing is likely to change for many years, that's why Dyche will continue to be linked.

The next level is a myth we are punching above our weight and only money will change that.

well, Dyche has already proved that he take a team to a top ten (seventh) place

"Top ten" is meaningless anyway. It's only ever the top 6 to 8 that matters, depending on who wins the cups, who wins the European cup/Europa league, European bans etc

Though we remarkably have an outside chance at finishing 8th this season and grabbing the final European spot, if Man City do get banned, considering our squad quality and resources relative to the rest of the league, we are not a side who should be expecting to compete for Europe. Mid table safety is perfectly fine until we have the new stand and academy. Those are essential for the future of the club, and would mean we really have something to show for our time in the premier league, outside of happy memories.

I'd personally be fine with Dyche, I'm not convinced he's a daft racist and I don't think he'd try to make Wilf and Ayew play like Chris Wood. But whoever is in charge, just give me mid table safety, and if we look safe enough a good crack at the cups, until the stand and academy at finished. That's not to say don't try and get Europe if the opportunity presents itself, like at the moment, but it's not something to expect in pre-season, or ever be disappointing at not achieving.

Although I’d prefer Dyche to many, I still feel with Roy we have an opportunity too good to turn away. Blokes like Gareth Ainsworth, Neil Harris (couldn’t care less about his background) or if there is another guy doing well in a smaller league abroad have shown they can manage and do it on a tight budget. Get someone in now do do a year under the master and then take over with the same background team behind him.

That's a very simplistic take isn't it? You make it sound so easy and as though anyone who comes in for a year under his leadership would do well.

How often do assistants suddenly take over from their boss and become a success?

I can't think of many.
