Shaun Derry returns to the club (2019) and leaves (Jan 2023)
Has returned to the club as professional development coach.
Great to have him back.

Great character to have around the place and has done a fair bit of Management/Coaching.
Think he will be a good influence on players coming through. |

I've got a lot of respect for Derry, he seems a good bloke. Glad he's back!

Welcome back, and I am pleased by this news. But will we ever appoint anyone who isn't an ex-player?

he was a good player for us, but what exactly are his credentials other than being a failed lower league manager and ex-Palace?

really? the clip on twitter makes it sound a lot more than that or was that Shaun dressing it up? Either way he's good to have around the club.

He’s probably more experienced than most development coaches.

I don't think it's the fans who are obsessed with this.

Sick of all this association with former Players/Managers within the club. Pardew, Freedman, Bright and now Derry. What Next? Swindlehurst and Wright. Wait lets not forgot Don Rogers, hes still alive. What about Coppell for old times sake.

I should add that I think giving Shaun this role is a good move.

Can you explain why you are sick of it? Seems a strange comment? They’ve all done there coaching badges. All gained experience in coaching around the country before they came here. I wouldn’t think it’s great that ex players that get the club, and have an affinity to us would be welcomed.

Parish did broach the subject of getting ex players back at the club about a year ago in an interview. He said that the football world is full of people happy to take a quick buck from your club without necessarily earning it or having the club’s best interests at heart. Getting someone in with a emotional connection and love for the club means they’re more likely to go that extra mile and of course less likely to be just concerned about their own self interests.
He also added that he is more than happy to bring in people with no connection if he feels they’ll be good for the club, but there is an insurance of sorts, bringing in people who have Palace in the blood.
