He was a friend of a friend and a couple of times invited my dad and myself down to the training ground. First time was the last training session before the 97 play off final. He was such a nice guy and full of stories. Took the right piss out of the players. Remember Gareth davies storming out of steve coppells office having just been dropped for the game and hopkin being the last one out. Maurice told him to come over and sit with us for a bit and the respect he got from the players, hoppy happily obliged.

I will add my final words to hopkin were, do a claridge for us tomorrow...

Sad to hear. Lovely man

Started the Rail Travellers' Club in the mid 70s, hiring trains and running cut-price travel to all games. Even though third division, he helped Palace become one of the best supported away teams in the country.
His enthusiasm then extended to acting as foreman for the Campaign for Palace's fan's paint crew which carried out extensive work during the closed season in 1976 and 1977.
He was appointed by the club as manager of the newly acquired Mitcham Training Ground, living in the house on the site. He eventually became kit manager.
That's as I remember it, others may have better recollections.
Top man who had the respect of all fans. RIP Maurice.

Oh gawd, no, this one really hits home for me. From miles away in Melbourne, Aus, another huge part of my childhood gone. Like others I remember the wooden hut, the raffles on the packed trains, and a really nice, approachable bloke who was one of us (and so no one ever stepped out of line on those specials). Different times then and strange times now, but I really hope the club recognise this giant, and in a manner that befits his standing with us older fans. Sleep well big Mo, and quite simply: thank you so much. My deepest sympathies to your family and friends, and I truly hope they all understand how much you meant to all of us at the Palace.

So sad to hear this, people like Maurice were the heartbeat of Palace when I started following Palace, spending nearly every day helping the club and the fans and they did it because they had such a big heart.

I used to visit the old Mitcham Training Ground many times over the years Palace trained there and obviously Maurice lived there too, you can imagine the number of players, staff and fans he helped out over the years - it’s because we had great people working behind the scenes that Palace is such a magical, wonderful club - and he was one of our best.

Rest In Peace Mo

RIP Maurice....

I didn't know Maurice but I remember chanting his name at away games in the 80's.... Was he something to do with the kit at the time? Or was he just in the terraces with us? Not sure.... but he was a Palace man for sure...
