Newcastle takeover

How would you feel if Crystal Palace had been taken over by a consortium whose financial backing was provided by the Saudi royal family?

a) You would be seriously opposed to the takeover and it would break the bond that you feel you had with the club.

b) You would not support the takeover, you may even be critical of it, but you would privately be delighted that the club now had the funds to compete at the top end of the division.

c) You would support it and point out that many other clubs have taken a similar route.

Personally wouldn’t want the Saudis at palace. Is that the bloke that had the Turkish guy killed when his ms was waiting outside?

Wouldn’t be surprised if they were interested in Zaha as a high profile signing.

Another reason to resist Leeds getting a free ticket to the Premier. The moment they get promoted what are the chances that some billionaire investor appears out of nowhere.

Creates another Wolves with the likelihood of another cemented place in the top league.

That reduces our chances of staying up by one more place. Even if we are consistently bucking the trend.

If they are so loaded makes you wonder why the deal took so long to go through?

The oil price is not looking too clever at the moment can they afford to buy the club?!

Even if they are massively wealthy they still have to stick to Financial Fair Play limits and as we have seen from Charlton situation nothing is guaranteed!

A for sure. Would stop supporting palace until they left. If this quarantine has taught me anything, it’s that as much I love football, I could easily live without it.

This is a key point. You can’t do a Chelsea or man city anymore. While they’re still probably not as strict as they should be, FFP regulations won’t let Newcastle become top 4 over night, it’d probably take at least half a decade of smart signings and planning, a la Leicester (and even they have been rather fortunate this season).

They are going to be unbearable if they are taken over.
Already a bunch of pricks expecting teams to roll over when they come to town.

Reason enough to kick out all Saudi owners, but not a squabble over TV rights.

Is it possible the deal might be put on hold for the crisis in the oil industry?

I dread to think what the reactions of their fans will be on Tyneside if it all falls by the wayside, or should i say it will be rather amusing to see will be specially relevant for Mike Ashley after years of trying to flog them.

No, Saudi has the second biggest oil reserves in the world which will last them a lifetime (80 years plus). Very small pocket change to them.

FFP now limits rich owners spending and this was not around when Man City and Chelsea built their football empires when their rich owners could spend without limits in the transfer market.

It's a sad state of affairs that football fans are so desperate for success they will welcome these sorts of takeovers with open arms. I'm 100% certain I'd stop going if this happened at Palace (although fans attending games might not be possible for a while anyway).

Rainbow laces day will be interesting in Newcastle given their new owner does not allow homosexuality.
