Player debate #4 Hilaire vs Salako
Both great wingers and both were part of two of our best ever teams. Who gets your vote?
Hilaire made 293 appearances and scored 36 goals Salad made 273 appearances and scored 34 goals |

Oh man what a contest.
Both went through dodgy periods for many reasons, but if I was judging them at their best, I would have to go for Hilaire. He had the Zaha factor. In saying that, for 2 seasons before his horrific knee injury, Salako was as effective a winger as we’ve ever had. But Vince for me. Only Wilf and Ian Wright have entertained as much as Hilaire.

Have a feeling that Salako’s twitter output in the past two days may influence the results of this poll.

Never saw Hilaire (that I remember at least).
Saw Salako. Was great. Plus two tap ins to win at Highbury and ruin Wright’s 100 goals for Arsenal day. ![]()

Just a bit.

TwatOSphere apart, Vince would still have it. He might not have scored from the halfway line, but all round he was more exciting. He would turn a defender inside out, then go back and do it again leaving him on his backside again for fun. An absolute joy to watch.

Dont do Tritter so I have no idea what was said.
But what I do know is that I got a flutter in my tummy when Vince got the ball and not so much when Salako got the ball. So its Vince for me. |

My earliest memories of going to Selhurst involves the audible buzz of excitement that rose from the crowd whenever Vince received the ball.

Vince was not only a great player for us but also one of the nicest people you could meet.

Salako was better in goal though.

If you remember them both, I don't think it's a contest. Hilaire was a thrilling player - the crowd would catch its collective breath and lean forward when he got the ball - you would know he'd received it even if you were queuing for the bog. He became the standard by which we judged mercurial forwards - I think when Wilf was coming through, I praised him on here by saying he could be as good as Vince, one day.

In the current team, Salako would be Andros, and Hilaire would be Wilf.

Both great, but Vince for me. On top of his excellent wing play, he tracked back effectively, regularly dispossessing the opposing wide midfield player with a sliding tackle, hooking his foot around the ball and standing back up all in the same movement (I think you'd have to have seen it to know what the hell I'm talking about!!).

Salako was a hero but how can you be a club hero if you fundamentally don't get the fanbase, as shown the last few days.
Vince when I met him was a top bloke, I was sat next to him in the directors box/one of those lounges and he spent the whole game taking the piss out of Akinbiyi
